Reluctant reps

I went to several dealers in the Sacramento area a got very frustrated with them when they didn't want to order one. They said about the same thing - "I'm sure we can find what you are looking for through our locator"

In the beginning, they kept coming up with alternatives and finally said "No we won't order you a vehicle". Then I went to Autobytel to order one online, boy what a difference. Then the rep from the local ford dealership (John L Sullivan) kept calling me and trying to tell me that whoever was ordering mine and doing for 3% over invoice was jerking my chain. He tried real hard to convince me that this other dealership (local autobytel dealer) was not going to come through and that I was being strung along. He kept saying "these are not distressed sale vehicles, you will be lucky to get one for the sticker price".

Why are they so against ordering a vehicle? Three dealerships flat out said they would not order me a vehicle.

Re: Reluctant reps

My guess would be they want to move inventory and recoup some of their floor plan costs if they've had the truck for awhile.

Around here, no one has trucks on the lot for very long at all so people have to order all the time.

I suspect you're talking to the wrong folks at the dealerships.

Salesmen get paid on delivery of the truck to you. If they order one for you, and you wait 75 days for it, the salesman has to wait 75 days to get paid. He wants to deliver one to you now! Or next week at the latest. So he can get paid now.

I never talk to salesmen. Big waste of time. I begin with the new-truck sales manager or the fleet manager or maybe the dealership's general manager. Or in a small dealership, go right to the dealer or owner. I would be very surprised if one of those guys wouldn't order you a new truck exactly the way you want it. Unless your firm gross over invoice amount was below their minimum to make a deal.

If you don't mind driving a few miles to the north, I think you will find several dealers around here that will treat you right and be willing to order anything you'd like. I have had three excellant experiences with Gridley Country Ford in Gridley. I have friends that have purchased vehicles from the dealers in Colusa, Corning and Red Bluff and are very happy with the deals they got.
Don't bother stopping in Chico because they will treat you the same as the guys in Sacramento. Feel free to e-mail me if you want more info.
