Re: "S" in VIN number

VIN position 4 being a "S" means you have a hydraulic brake system with a GVWR of 9001 to 10,000 lbs and a Second Generation Airbag.

VIN position 8 would need to be an "S" for it to be the 6.8L V-10.

Re: "S" in VIN number

Thanks, Troutly. By "hydraulic brake system" I assume for them to go out of their way to have special code, this must be how our front and rear ABS that we ordered (optional on F350 SRW) is designated.

stephen--Thanks for the scare. Blood drained right out of me when I thought for a second we were getting the V10!

Re: "S" in VIN number

Actually, all the Ford Light Truck VIN position 4 designators specify Hydraulic for Brake Type so I know they are not talking specifically ABS. GM and Dodge show the same. But, in the car lines, there is no mention made of the Brake Type in the VIN build.

Re: "S" in VIN number

Once you get to a 650 you can get air brakes.

Re: "S" in VIN number

Panache--Oh yeah, that would go over REAL well w/ the little lady.

"You know, honey, I was thinking: We need something with a little more payload than the F350...say, an F650?"

The dogs look pretty cozy out there, but I don't think I'd be all that comfortable in the dog house!

Thanks for the replies. Have a good one!
