I bought my truck from Joe Hall at Charlie Thomas Ford in Houston. I ordered the truck for 925 over invoice. Before the truck came in the prices went up 200 but they stuck to the original price with no complaints. Two weeks ago I was given a finance rate, but when I went in to get the truck the rates went up 1/2 point, so they deducted the difference from the selling price. I ended up about 600 over invoice. The guys I dealt with there are pretty good people.

That's where I bought my truck. I drove from Ashburn Va. and love them as a dealer. There are 25-30 dealers between my house and Crystal Ford and I would never buy a Ford from another dealer.

I am a newbie. I wish I'd heard of this site before ordering my F350 but here I am looking for advice. My dealer is quoting $1500 over invoice (we have yet to agree on a price). I am looking to pay about $800 over invoice. They have been helpful in working with me through the Internet and telephone but seem reluctant to settle on a price. The order went in Jan 29 '00 but their first allocation was for March. They are looking at late May for delivery. From the reading of the posts here, it seems that my $800 over invoice offer is fair. I am interested in hearing theories as to why I have not been able to talk my dealer into getting to the bottom line, yet they're willing to order the truck? Thanks for "listening" to a new guy.

Fuzzy, first, welcome to ford-diesel!
Your dealer is most likely willing to order the truck without a locked in price since they feel they can sell the truck (at probably than higher than $1500 over) to someone else if you don't buy it.
You might feel that your $800 over is fair (and it is reasonable) but your dealer has the truck and there are plenty of other people with $$$ besides yourself (and many not near as educated as you are ).
Get that price nailed down, ask for a DORA to confirm that *your* truck with *your* configuration has indeed been ordered and start deciding how bad you want *that* truck from that dealer. If you look around here you'll see other folks that have gotten trucks scheduled and built in much less time than you. But you'll also see that you are about to start bumping into not being able to order a 2000 and get it built.
Have you put down a deposit? If not (or it's refundable), work with this dealer on a price and also check out some of the other references in other topics for dealers that might get you your truck this year for a cheaper price (and if happens, blow your current dealer off).
BTW, the truck takes about 3 weeks from build to delivery (sometimes more, sometimes less). If your dealer's first allocation is March but delivery is late May, sounds like your truck is looking at being scheduled for early May.
The best way is to have a small hometown dealer such as mine who actually shows you the price himself and deals from there at a markup that is unbelievable. No haggling involved. Someone who loves trucks too. It's like dealing with a dealership from the Andy Griffith show in Mayberry RFD. I bought two trucks there and the deal was the same. Even when these things first came out and were as hot as anything. Send a note to me for the dealer's name and number.

Do you realy think the dealer is showing you his invoice ? I've be pricing all week for a F350 psd , reg cab ,lariet and most dealers aare telling me their invoice will be $xxxxx , all in around $500 of each other . Most of their invoice prices are about $5000 less than list . My price is $800 -$1400 over cost . I just got another price out of state for $2000 less than the best price I got so far! Do'es the state I live in reflect the base pricing levels ? Do dealer volume discounts vary that much ?
hello all,
went to renton, wa this morning and sat down with don wellner and hashed out an order for a f350 4x4 lwb cc psd 6 spd 3:73 ls xlt dark wedgewood blue exterior and dark denium blue interior, priority 11. got a few options tossed in and got a darn good price. he will get mail me the dora in a couple days. all the numbers matched the various internet car web site prices with the exception of destination charge and the invoice price(i had originally priced for swb and switched to lwb) delivery time is under 15 weeks and the last couple that he ordered came in around 8 weeks or so...
this site was a huge help in getting to know the right questions to ask and what to watch out for. it also saved me a couple thousand bucks!!! THANK YOU, henry
Docfixit:
Not only shows the invoice but has shown me the Pennsylvania state title card that displays the cost he paid to prove his invoice prices. Yes I believe him. His service has been too good to question his practices. In fact, I'm almost embarassed to accept the deals he offers. IMAGINE A CUSTOMER SAYING THAT!!!

Thanks very much for the insight. It's nice to have a group of folks who have gone through similar situations and can spread the experience around.
You hit it right on the head - I REALLY want this truck and I will talk to the sales rep about the botton line. Luckily, I have a copy of the Vehicle Order Confirmation. Whether I'm willing to swallow my pride and pay OR walk if the price is not what I want will be the challenge.
I got an update on the build date (basically its being built as we spaeak) and they are now expecting delivery of the truck the first week in April. A very good point on these being the last few weeks of the model year 2000 run. I had forgotten that tidbit. I'll keep you all informed as to the outcome. Thanks again.
Fuzzy
