Sooner Than Expected

Y2K F-250, SC/142, IB/HG

Order 12/8/99, DORA 12/13/99, Built 2/21/00, Released 2/24/00, Delivered 2/29/00

I'm new, What a great site, so much information. I expected 16 weeks but 11 week delivery was a nice surprise. Have 500 miles loged. My first diesel, hope I can get used to this noisy beast. It sounds great at idle, and when you accelerate very gently, it's great at 40-55 MPH in OD, but moderate acclelration between 1500-2000 RPM and you'de hear the marbles shaking in the can. Any suggestions other than ear plugs? Looks like proper break-in, using the standyne addative, and sound-proofing both the engine compartment and cab will make a significant difference.

Re: Sooner Than Expected

Hookman,

Congrats on your new truck!!! I know you will enjoy it. I am waiting for mine. I have a build date of 3-20(NEXT WEEK!) I was wondering if your dealer did a good job of informing you about the PSD and maintenance requirements/tips? I have plowed for a guy a few years ago with one, but this will be my first to own. Im a little worried with such an expensive option. Good Luck

Re: Sooner Than Expected

Labrador,

A build date of 3/20 sounds great. Just wonder how you found the build date (VOPC, or dealer)? From what I've experienced/read here assembly/testing/release takes approx. 1/2 day (amazing). Transport: Well, if your truck will be delivered via truck convoy you may see it by end of this month, if by rail car you could be looking at end of April. I'm not an authority on truck delivery.
My dealer introduced me to their truck dept. manager and scheduled my first appointment. My questions to him regarded thhe first oil change, break-in oil additive, and break-in period. He said 3K 1st oil change, a black lite visible oil dye exist in the oil to allow easy leak detection, and for my limited city driving/plus a little 5K boat towing 60K break-in.
I think he's nuts; my mechanic says a 1K 1st oil change is a necessity. Also, I'de do what is discussed on this site regarding: 1) No idle period exceeding 5 minutes. 2) No using cruse control for first 500 miles. 3) Do vary RPMs while driving these first 500 Miles. 4) Use a diesel additive.
You probably know all this stuff already.
I will sound-proof this noisy lady like I've read about.
One last thing: All this discussion about poor running 99.5 plus PSDs, due to low fuel pressure and or timing made stop by the local International dealer and ask some questions yesterday. I met the maintenance mechanic/manager and he gladly went for a ride to listen to the racket at 1750-2000 RPMs and during any moderate acceleration (my first diesel). He said my engine sounded perfect and the noise was typical for these CAT injectors.

Regards,

Ray

Re: Sooner Than Expected

Hookman,

What happened with the build date, I called the dealer on 2/28 to add the camper package and when he brought it up on the computer to add it he found the build date and an assigned VIN. I hope this is good info and I'm not getting my hopes up for nothing! If you know anything about this let me know. I'll check back for sure. Have fun with your new toy, I know you will!

Re: Sooner Than Expected

Labrabor,

Temporary VIN# assignment normally happens 10-14 days prior to build date. My dealer gave me that info and soon afterwords gave me an ETA. Only problem was his ETA was off by two weeks. I called him and asked why the conflicts with ETA dates? He said he always gives ETA dates with an extra two weeks so as not to disapoint customers if delivery is late, but instead to suprise them when the truck showes up ahead of time.
