Truck from Canada?

I live in a rural area with the nearest Ford dealer about 2 hrs away. I placed an order a few days ago with this dealer for the truck I want at a good price. The truck should arrive in January. The dealer I am working with doesn't really want my trade, so I have accepted the fact that I will be selling it myself, which will be a bit of a hassle out here in the sticks, but I will manage. So far, so good...

The local garage/used car dealer just called saying they have a truck, just like what I ordered, that came in from Canada. Apparently they deal for these from Canadian Ford dealers with excess inventory. It is "new" (36 miles) but must be sold as used, since this local outfit is not a Ford dealer (they used to be). The price is ok, the truck is equipped the way I want (except for 275hp), AND they are offering a good deal for my trade. All things being equal, I would rather support my local outfit and I have no qualms about their honesty.

Please help me with some good reasons why I should not succumb to the temptation of dropping my trade off tomorrow and coming home with my new truck. I am especially concerned about warranty issues, problem resolution - things I might run into if this truck turns out to be a lemon.

Re: Truck from Canada?

I purchased a Canadian truck that was reimported and have had no problems. As to buy back and lemon I believe the same rules would apply as if it was a used US truck

Re: Truck from Canada?

I have heard of this also as the folks around here have a hard time finding them (PSD's). The only thing they said they have to do is change the speeedo from kilometers to miles.

I would talk to the folks where you have your order placed & see if they are willing to work with you a little more. 3/36 applies whether you are the first or tenth owner within those constraints.

Re: Truck from Canada?

Hi guys I was just wondering that question myself. Because next summer I'm gonna sell my truck and order a dually. And I was wondering what I had to do to sell it in the US? If anybody knows what is involved in selling them, your info would be appreciated.

Re: Truck from Canada?

Their is no problem selling a truck in the USA. The only requirement is that the truck must be a used truck. I have seen 3 of my last 4 go to the USA and due to this I realized a much higher trade in allowance. However, to arrange a USA sale there is alot of paper work and that is where a broker comes in. The broker handles all the paper work and tax rebates. Also brokers do not like to work for private parties as the paper work will double as now liens and titles must be searched. If a person tries to eliminate the broker then he has to drive his truck through the USA showing it to buyers as these buyers will trust a broker over the phone but not a owner. When a buyer is found the paper work begins. The last thing is that before a USA dealer can sell the vehicle the speedo has to be changed to MPH. The cost of that is normally rolled into the deal between dealers and a broker. I have looked into privately selling a vehicle to a USA Ford dealer and after seeing what had to be done, I just traded it in and let my local Ford dealer handle it. Another thing to remember is that a good broker will know what he can sell quick as he is in constant contact with USA dealers, the broker will then let his Cdn dealers know what he really wants. A person can drive around for weeks looking for a dealer than has to have his truck. The one truck of my last four was a 00 loaded XLT SC 4 x 4 auto short box with only 16000 KM or about 9000 miles. Apparently no one wanted it but dealer found a local that was willing to pay the USA price so it stayed in Canada. The dealer may have taken a loss on my trade as I knew what the USA price was from another dealer so I was happy, dealer was happy and I guess new owner is happy.
