VIN decode of 4th digit for 2000

Just got my F-350 2000 VIN number. I am trying to decode the 4th digit. When I search the forum I did find decode information for 1999 showing the 4th digit to represent the GVWR. 1999 decode works for all but the 4th digit. My forth digit is an 'S'. The 1999 decode only gives 1-5 as choices. Any help appreciated. .......Thanks

The 99 decode information should be the same as the 2000 information and vice versa.

The only Ford Light Truck VIN position that uses the numbers 1 through 5 is VIN position 1, Nation of Origin. It does not use any numbers for VIN position 4 as far back as 1995, only letters.

Shawn is correct though, for VIN position 4 the letter S indicates a GVWR of 9001 to 10000 lbs with a Second Generation air bag and Hydraulic Brakes . VIN position 4 is one of the postions that uses "carryover" from year to year, so it'll remain an S in the above configuration until one of those 3 things change.

Shawn & Troutly - thanks for the info. My truck is 9900 GVWR so looks like the S question has been solved. GREAT site, I have learned more than I ever could have elsewhere. My truck ETA is 5/21 (Sunday ?) so I'll have to bring the chevy van to the VA PSD Rally.
