This is what I think I'll order, yes...a shorty dually!

Well, after much consideration and discussion with my wife, we really like an F-350 DRW 4WD Crew Cab 156" (SWB) Lariat with the Chrome package in Black. Wow that's a mouthful!
I have a 14,000# trailer that I will pull back and forth to my NC property and need the dually. My wife hates a dually but likes the idea that a shorty is a tad easier to get around in and I like the idea that I can get a 3.73 rear in it. We settled on black because I can't get a dually shorty in a King Ranch and I hate the black stock door handles next to a white truck, go figure!

One thing I noticed while pricing out these trucks is the 6.4L in a SRW costs $5,723 (invoice) and in a DRW it's $5,432 (invoice) what gives? Why would it be cheaper in the dually?

Re: This is what I think I'll order, yes...a shorty dually!

I think it's because the V-10 is the standard engine in the DRW, where as the V-8 is the standard engine in the SRW..

Sounds like a nice combo John. You could go with a wide trac 172" for a tighter turning radius, but there still is no getting around the length when you are parking it. It's just too damn long when you need to drive it on a busy business day. That's why I went back to a short box...
I realized what a PITA my 172" DRW was when I got back into a shorter wheelbase truck...
Are you giving Bobby a shot?

I too had a LWB Dually Lariat back in 2003.25 and Ford bought it back. I loved it but my wife didn't like how it was around town. She's been driving our 2001 crew cab swb srw for years now.

I think Bobby has a deal for me I'm nervous that these incentive programs have changed and need to talk to him, I think he's off today.

I look at it this way, it is what it is...
The programs will probably change again before you receive your order, so why fret about it now?
I doubt the incentives will go backwards anytime soon.

At that price I'll take 5 and sell four.

I think you're right. The printed Order guide shows the V-10 as standard in the FX4 trim line, but the V-8 as standard on the Lariat. But I suspect the Order guide is wrong. When I build and price on http://www.fordvehicles.com , the only engines available on a Lariat DRW are the 6.8L for $0 and the 6.4L for 6,545. But same truck with SRW and the engine choices include the 5.4L at $0, 6.8L for $600 or the 6.4L for 6,895.

The 6.4L has MSRP of $6,545 on a Lariat DRW or $6,895 on a Lariat SRW, or $350 more on the SRW. That has to be because the std engine in the SRW is the 5.4L but in the DRW it's the 6.8L.

Re: This is what I think I'll order, yes...a shorty dually!

So Smokey you haven't said anything about my new (proposed) Sierra Negro shorty
I'm trying to be a little different here as you mentioned. In my neck of the woods dually long beds are as common as humidity here in Florida.
BTW, I made a comment about getting different colors in a DRW, SWB truck, looks like I was wrong, the pamphlet only shows black or white in a shorty bed so I guess the old rule still applies. It also looks like you can't get two tone paint or cab lights with that package.

Ever notice that you always have to do things Fords way? Whether it's price or paint, you're getting it the way they want you to have it, no matter how many ways you try to go around it

I checked 5 dealers stock including our friend griff, all 6.4's not one v-10 in the county. Do they actually make them?

Re: This is what I think I'll order, yes...a shorty dually!

I was all set to order a new F-450, but my wife hated my last DRW also.
After further review, I decided to go with what was the smart move, and not the heart move.
I park in front of my business, and a big, black F-450 Dago-mobile isn't what keeps customers from getting envious and spiteful, so I toned it down.
I need to plow, and I like the feel of a short truck, so back to a 156"....

Re: This is what I think I'll order, yes...a shorty dually!

My wife will be going to the bank and post office everyday in it for our business and you never know, we may get some big shipment in at the post office that needs to be palletized
In all seriousness, I do have a trailer with a machine that will be taken to the mountains of North Carolina and it weighs in at exactly 14,000# (Kobota KX 121-3 excavator weighs 10,000# and the dump trailer is right at 4,000# empty) so I'm being a responsible citizen by following manufacturer's guidelines and safety limits for a Ford pick up.

Plus, as Roofeditor said, I validate this truck by saying it's my Harley!

Cab lights should be standard on the dually...... DOT regs, doncha know.

As for the wives, I wasn't sure that I wanted a dually last time, and since she didn't want one that helped make up my mind. This time, since I'm looking at the F-450 (and she doesn't drive my truck as much as we thought she would) there's no decision to make. She likes the way the new ones drive much better, so I don't think it'd matter anyway.

Oh yes, that's it exactly! DOT regs for a dually and cb lights. I thought there was something simple like that.
