Re: X-plan

X-plan is a preset (by Ford) price that is (I believe) 0.4% less then actual dealer invoice. You can approximate it by subtracting 16% from the posted MSRP. Currently x-plan is about $150 less then the "Keep it Simple" plan in affect until 3 Jan 06. You also still qualify for most rebates in affect when you take delivery.

To take advantage of it you need to qualify for a PIN. You do this by working for a company that Ford has designated as eligible, by being a member of a qualifing organization (ie: Disabled American Veterans) or by getting a PIN from a Ford employee (they are given so many to give out each year).

While it is possible to beat x-plan pricing (if you are a good negotiator or have a great dealer), using it gives the average person a pain free buying experiance at a very good price.

Ford employees are not allowed to give an X-Plan PIN to anyone that has already visited a dealership and talked price. And they certainly wouldn't be allowed to give a PIN to someone who has already ordered their vehicle.

However, if you can somehow come up with an X-Plan PIN, because you work for a Ford supplier, then talk to your dealer about using it to buy your ordered vehicle. Ford reimburses the dealer about $500 on an X-Plan deal, so if you tied your dealer down to less than $500 profit, then he should be glad to change the deal.

But if your guy is going to make more than about $500 on your deal, then he'll probably say no dice. And no dealer is forced to accept an X-Plan deal. However, if you come up with an X-Plan PIN at this late date, the dealer will probably trace it down and get the Ford employee in trouble. Big trouble. As in fired from his job with Ford. Re: X-plan

I'm in the market for a new F250 because my 2001 burned in an engine block heater fire. I don't have an X-plan PIN and so far I'm not going out on a limb asking if anyone has a spare PIN, but a couple of quick questions. Do all dealers participate? How do you approach the dealer when you do have one. Would a truck like the amarillo or king ranch be off limtis?

I know the rules about not working with the dealer before hand etc.

No. But almost all

I would go straight to the fleet manager. Don't talk to anyone else except to ask where you can find the fleet manager. When you meet him, explain that you have an X-Plan PIN and want to buy a new (describe vehicle), then ask if he'll sell it to you (or order it for you) under X-Plan.

[ QUOTE ]

Probably not, but it depends on how "hot" they are when you are ready to buy. If they're sitting on the lot burning up floor plan costs, then I'm sure the dealer will be glad to let it go under X-Plan. But if he doesn't have any and can't get any and six guys are waiting for one, then he's not going to want to let it go for X-Plan money.

You can probably get a King Ranch or an Amarillo or lesser trim under X-Plan at most dealers, but probably not a Harley Davidson, or Mustang GT.

Re: X-plan

If you are ordering a truck with the X plan why would a dealer care if it is a lariat vs harley davidson vs king ranch model?

Because the hot-selling models are rationed out to the dealers. If demand exceeds supply for a Harley, then the dealer can make more money on his limited supply of Harleys by selling them for more than X-Plan price. Why "give away" one of his Harley allocations under X-Plan, when 6 guys are standing in line willing to pay $1,000 more for the only Harley he's allocated this month?

But if he can get all the Harleys he orders, then he'll let one go under X-Plan. Economics 101.

Re: X-plan

Isn't the X-plan the same as "keep it simple pricing"? I bought my '05 last year under the a/z plan. It was approx. $1700 less than the X-plan. Not trying to brag, I was just curious....
