Xplan is not as good as Aplan - GM promotion

so does anyone think Ford will start giving away APlan Pins to match GM's employee discount promotion?

Unless GM reports a significant boost in sales, I don't see it happening. I think with the X-Plan incentives given to employees, FoMoCo is balancing profits without giving away the store.

But that is exactly what is happening.

Read here:

Detroit Free Press

GM share is up 2-3% in June. Over 30% share in June. That hasn't happened since 1997.

Ford, DCX and even Toyota share is down in June.

If you do the math, the GM "Employee Pricing" plan isn't really that great, but it is a great gimmick and is getting people into the showrooms.

The DCX dealers in Dallas-Fort Worth are all offer "Employee Pricing" for everyone, but it is just a come-on. They are all making up their own prices and advertising them as "employee" prices.

Re: Xplan is not as good as Aplan - GM promotion

Actually, employee pricing is a pretty good deal (6 of the Wife's family works for GM). They are publishing the actual pricing that employees get (GMS). Being able to walk into a dealer without having to haggle for the best price is a wonderful thing to many people. There is no lower price for a vehicle as the price is invoice minus holdback unless you want to dicker with a dealer about the commission.

I am not sure how it isn't a good deal.

Re: Xplan is not as good as Aplan - GM promotion

The Chevy/GMC pricing structure is a lot more agressive than Ford's.......2005 Chevy 2500 Diesel CrewCab 4x4 LT, with all the trimings, about $37,500............2005 Ford F250 CrewCab 4x4 Lariat with all the trimings is about $40,900, with the 2006 Model about $44,250.........you bet GM is gaining market share

Re: Xplan is not as good as Aplan - GM promotion

FMC is running a promotion where their employees get $1,000 bounty if they send friends or family members, even those using X-plan, to buy a new Ford product. Costs FMC about as much as A-plan would, but not as many buyers will qualify.

No the difference is in rebates, dealer holdbacks, etc. to clear out the 2005's and start selling the 2006's which basically no one is buying just yet, even though the lots are filing up with them.

And I see that DC is now promoting $9,000 off the Dodge 2500 Cummins quad cabs.........and it will be months before their 2006's arrive on the scene.

Because GM cut the rebates at the same time they gave you GMS pricing.

I agree, no haggling is good, but the ad prices that I see lately are not as good as they were before. Tahoes and Suburbans are $2000-$3000 more than I could have bought one 3-4 months ago.

Another example. I bought a new '04 GTO last Xmas for $21,500. That's $12K off MSRP, including $9500 in GM rebates. The 2005 GTO has no rebates at all. If I bought one today, the super special "GM Employee Price" is $31,500. That's only $3000 off MSRP. My dealer gave me $2500 off as his regular ad price. No haggling there either.

Guardrail if you like the GM pricing so much then why don't you just jump ship and go buy one

Re: Xplan is not as good as Aplan - GM promotion

I'm not going anywwhere just curious to see how Ford will address this if they do.

I have one of the oldest 6.0's on this site - built 11/21/2002 second shift and delivered to me here 11/28/2002. More software versions that MSWindows but at 43000 miles its running fine on C94 injectors.

Besdies, moving all the gizmos to another truck would be to tiring.

I do think FORD has a lot of work to do on customer listening and customer service and it shows in their stock price and their market share.

I apologize but I just get a little defensive. But your absolutely right that they need to listen to their customers. They also need to listen to their Employees. If they did they might get something right for a change. And they need to lower the price too. I saw a F350 cc LB 4x4 ts 6.0 with a markup of over 9K. That's just nuts.

Ahh. That is why. I almost never factor the rebates in as they seem to change quite a bit. For the '06 GTO, I show an employee price of 28,531 + 700 Dest. $1000 Gas Guzzler tax if you get the auto and $597 for the speed. Not sure why they are charging $31k for a $30k car.

I agree with you on the walk in the door, get the best price with no haggling idea. But you could have gotten a $5000 rebate on a Tahoe. Now you get "Employee Price" and a $3000 rebate. The GMS price is not $2000 below dealer invoice, and buying at dealer invoice minus rebate has pretty much been the starting point of the negotiations around here lately. Like I said, I bought a $33.5K GTO for $21.5K. $500 back of invoice plus $9500 in rebates.

Plus, GM uses "$500 Bonus Coupons" that they give the dealer (in limited amounts every month). The dealer can use 2 or 3 (it varies) to help close a deal. If you watch the ads units, you can almost always find a deal that is $1000-$1500 below invoice, which is as good as or better than GMS pricing. Add that with the pre-GMS higher rebates, and the deals were better before the GMS pricing promotion.

As far as the GTO is concerned, here is the MSRP and GMS price directly from the GM website:

[ QUOTE ]

Selected Style: 2005 GTO
MSRP: $34,295.00
GM Employee Discount Price: (approx.) $30,979.03

[/ QUOTE ]

Dealer invoice is $31,872.88, so GM is giving you a $893.85 break back of invoice, but no rebate. The 2004 had a $5500 rebate.
