5th Wheel Hitch with Bed Mat

This is something I have wanted to do since I got my 5er.
Have the bed mat in the truck while the hitch is in place,
but I didn't want to cut large rectangles in the mat to fit
over the bed rails of my old hitch.
So when I installed the Reese Elite hitch the first time I
noticed there was about a 3/8" gap between the bottom
of the hitch legs and the truck bed.
All you need to do is measure from the front of the bed
and the sides of the bed where the center of the attachment
points are for the hitch, place the bed mat into the bed and
transfer the attachment point locations.
Then cut 3" squares or circles to clear the pucks.
Now my coolers etc. do not wander around while I'm driving
down the road.

Just cut the holes in the bed mat.

Install the hitch!
No more taking out the hitch, putting in the bed mat......

what is the rating on the hitch that comes from ford?

Right now I have the signature series 18K slider that is the same type. It is suppose to work with a kit to change the pucks.

Tomahawk,

I did the same for my gooseneck. With the ball and anchors removed, I can reinsert the plastic plugs, so the holes don't get full of crap.
I bought a 2008-2010 deezee mat, which fits ok, but the bump out for the fuel filler is bigger on the 11, so it doesn't fit perfectly in the Left corner.

Senix,
I'm not sure about the rating on the Ford hitch.
While I was waiting and waiting for my truck
to be delivered, I picked up one of the older,
and cheaper Elite series hitches and the adapter kit.
The kit was simple to install.
Are you thinking about getting an '11?

Thinking..sort of. My dealer e-mailed me asked if I wanted to trade up. Shot me a window sticker of a decked out one of course. Commerical line had it all.

So I asked what he would give me. I looked mine up on KBB. I think I could pull about 30-35K from mine.

Don't think I will hear back.

Tomahawk, mat looks good with the hitch, did you have any clearance issues with the mat under the hitch?

Senix - If you want auction prices for your truck, let me know and I can look up your exact rig at the auction. More than likely, will be a better idea of what you can "expect" than KBB. Many times trades are overinflated in KBB because of people being upsidedown in cars. Auction or Black Book will give you real world what the dealer could buy your truck for. Let me know.

I have the Square Reese adapter that fits in the puck holes and then the Reese hitch sits on top of it. My question is how big of hole should I cut in my bed rug?

I would measure the outside diameter of the metal pucks that come through the bed floor that have the large plastic ring snapped on it. I would start with the size opening and adjust the hole size from there.

You can always go larger but not smaller on the holes you cut. With small holes at first, you can also reshape the holes in case you miss cut one.

If i were to install a mat, I would do it the same way you use to cut gaskets from gasket paper.

I would remove the small plastic plug in each of the 5 pucks. Then lay the mat in the bed and center it. If needed, use some weights to hold in place. Then take a rubber mallet and tap each of the 5 pucks to transfer an imprint of them to the bed mat. Remove mat and cut the openings. Install mat and check for adjustments need to the 5 openings. Try to install the hitch in the 4 pucks and see if adjustments need to be made for it. If all ok go get beer. If not, scratch head and contemplate adjustments while you drink beer buddy hands to you.
