I sure hope that is a glitch in the system....I can't/won't wait that long. Camping season is starting! This sucks.

A little bird told me the holdup is an argument between Ford and the EPA. Ford didn't design the urea system so the engine would shut down and not run at all unless there was adequate urea (diesel engine fluid) in the tank.

So all the trucks already built have to be modified so they won't allow the engine to run when the urea tank is empty. And it's silly to continue building new trucks that can't be shipped until the mod is installed.

I would have thought that would have been settled way back before the final engine design was approved by EPA, but apparently EPA assumed there would always be urea available for the emissions system to work right. Without the urea, the engine won't meet EPA requirements. So Ford has to be sure the engine won't run without it.

Consider it the first "recall" of the 2011 models.

Do you really think that they would mandate it to shut down? I would think that would open them and Ford up to potential lawsuits should the vehicle shut down at the wrong time, or put the owner in a serious risk to life if it wouldn't start just because he forgot to fill the def tank. (think winter climate and freezing to death) The limp mode that supposedly exists now would make more sense to me, but I said sense and the EPA LOL

This smells fishy to me... Maybe like Government Motors pulling some strings with its EPA buddies? It seems a little odd that they would bring something like this up right as the truck goes into production, after the truck's engine and emissions systems were reviewed and approved by the EPA...

geeze

I put in a complaint this morning.
I ordered (re ordered) or my truck got accepted on 2/17,got vin. on 2/19.

The dealer made me put 1000.00 down to order. YES, This is getting way to far out now! I was good (not great) with April, But end of May...I'm trying to find out WHY?
And if it is true...i'm thinking i want to cancel my order...But the dealer won't let me, he said he keeps my money if i cancel!!! Because he said he has to take delivery of the truck now, since it has a vin number.

I said, the truck isn't even CLOSE to be built, why can't just delete the damn order!
It might be time to get nasty!! See what the wife says when she gets home, if she thinks we should cancel

This isn't good news. I think limp makes more sense than full shut down, but the government doesn't always make sense with there decisions. If that is what it is,But smokey has been around for a long time.

You're probably right. The Feds wouldn't mandate something dangerous. But the limp mode would be so slow and frustrating that you'd want to add some urea to the tank ASAP. With the right sensors the computer can predict "miles to empty" and give you an idiot light with only a few miles to go, then go into limp mode with only a coupla miles to go. But at some point the engine wouldn't run at all.

Hey all, I live here in the great city of Louisville, today I drove past the Fern valley plant(explorer plant) over half of the lot was full of superdutys. I have lived here all my life and have never seen full size trucks in this lot only explorer or like suvs. I do think the trucks I seen today are gas models though, there is no badges on the door (powerstroke). The truck plant is about a 20 minute drive between the two plants if possible I will check the other lot Monday. Sorry for the bad news

Yep ordered the standard rearend and everyone orders the limited slip is the reason ,that means the forklift driver has to go to the back of the lot and pick threw all the rearends just to find a single standard.
