Garage Door Opener, weak signal?

I usually park my truck right in front of the garage, with the rear bumper about 3' off the door. When i tried to program the button, i had absolutely no luck. I decided to turn the truck around and try to program it with the front facing the door, and got it to go!

so when i turned the truck back around, with the front of it facing away from the door, it no longer works!

anyone else having similar problems?

anyone have any ideas about this one?

I find the opener (Car2U) in my 2011 much stronger than the HomeLink unit I had in my 2008 F150. I had to read the owner's manual to program the unit in the 2011. Once I understood the steps, it was a piece of cake. I can open my garage door from the street with the 2011 while I had to be mid-driveway to get the HomeLink to open the door.

Try going to http://www.learcar2u.com/ and see if your specific garage door is one of the older ones that require different programming.

yeah, thanks for that. it is a newer opener with rolling code. as stated in the OP i was successful in programming it. it really is pretty straight forward process. however it only appears to work with the front of the truck pointed at the garage. to me it seems like the transmitter is not putting out. the door works fine from my wife's vehicle, and with the handheld transmitter that came with the door.

Try programming a different button. The 3rd one, closest to center is very weak. The other two work much better, makes no sense, but worked for me since I dont use all three.

This is good news! I've been using the button closest to the center and thought it was pretty weak. I'll try the outside button.

Good idea, tried it with the other 2 buttons, but more of the same results. I called Car2U and they were useless. told me that due to FCC regulations their units only function in real close proximity due to people breaking in to other folks homes. they suggested that i get some wire and 'add' it to the antenna on the opener.

in the last year we have had 4 other vehicles all homelink (2 GM, 1 Hyundai & 1 Toyota) that all function from around 50' away. not to mention the remote that comes with the opener.

i got the impression in speaking with the tech that this is a self contained unit in the visor. only have to supply it power to work? she had me moving the visor through several angles to see if that helped.....

ford should consider going to Homelink. Car2U doesn't get the job done! or mine is broken right out of the box.

You would think that the ford opener would have a good range with it's basically unlimited supply of 12 volt power vs the opener that came with my garage door and it's small battery.

Which button you use should have all the same output.

Call Car2U back and do some more arguing. In the end they will send you a Wayne Dalton garage door module that is Car2U compatible at no charge.

There is obviously a problem and that is why they are willing to send you the kit.

As said above I am very happy with the Car2U and I am using the middle button for what it is worth.
