Ok, 2009 lariat with all knobs 4dr heated seats, dual temp zones, the talking woman, camper package.... OR for $400 less I can get a reg cab xlt 4x4 2011.
These mpg numbers coming out are freaking me out. I am days from having to make my choice and I got the 09 on hold for $250. My commut is 900miles a week. do the math if these 2011 numbers are even close. thats $50 a week savings at 20mpg, let alone the 24 or 26mpg!

While I haven't followed all of your posts, These trucks are not commute vehicles.... You need a 40+ mpg , and keep your current unit for weekends
If you are worried about fuel cost, them you are not a candiate for one.
Sorry

40mpg like a yaris, that would be awesome but where would I put my diesel tank and all my tools? Come to think of it I prolly commute with a third of the weight of a yaris. And as of now I have no truck(jeep rental..long story) but I like the way you think. Just wish it would work.
Big carbon footprint here.

Is it really even possible to design an engine to move a 9k lb truck at 24mpg at these emission regs without the budget of NASA? Somebody start pinching us.

As I said, I don't know your requirments, if a truck is required, then so be it.
I would also suggest you drive your current unit a few more years...
I want a new one, I would like a new one, I can afford a new one.
BUT, my 2000 still works like day one

You're not considering maintenance costs. The 2011 adds urea injection as an exhaust after-treatment. From what I've heard, you refill it just like gas. As to the frequency? I heard roughly every 10k miles.
And who said you're going to get 20 MPG? I think anything you read right now is going to be vastly over-estimated. With the DPF in addition to the urea injection, I'm doubtful you'll do any better than a pre-2011 truck.

I'd get the 2011... New truck, new waranty... There was a reason (besides new emission) that Ford totally redesigned the motor in just a few years. More pulling, towing, hauling capacity, etc... Looks like you use a truck as a truck... Plus, if it somehow gets the claimed mileage then in the long run it will be cheaper.

If you talk to those in the industry (not associated with Ford) or hear about Urea equipped diesels in Europe, you'll hear that Urea is actually a Godsend for better mileage and power. And that little tank of Urea will cost maybe $20-$30 to fill up. It's not going to be the maintenance nightmare like those who are new to it think it will. And those worried about it freezing, they make a cold weather formula.
I broke 2 telephone poles that where side by side. seatbelt on didnt feel a thing. Thanks.
Sorry, didn't know your situation (as I stated)
Find a chepo 2009/2010 (rebates),
OR
2011 and purchase the all inclusive extra warranty before the base expires.
As, I don't depend on my unit every day (I have a bycicle).
It's never left me hanging.
Ford in betting all their marbles in this, bad press won't help them.
GO FOR IT !!!!!
I need users to prove out my guess that this will be a good unit
