Disappointed In Lack of 6.2L Feedback

I'm looking into moving up from my 2010 F-150 Supercrew and back to a Superduty. I can't justify the cost of the diesel for my use, bug based on the lack of real feedback on an engine that is a year old already, I can't really get excited about the 6.2L now, either.

Is the 6.2L that unpopular, or just not exciting enough to generate feedback?

I too would like to hear more about the 6.2. I wonder how many are out there, compared to the number of oil burners sold.

I do know that my '05 6.0 and this '08 6.4 have been much more expensive to run than my former V-10s or 460s. And my wife's '04 F-150 5.4 has been flawless.

I jumped ship this past Monday
Went from a 05 F350 6.0 to a 2011 F250 6.2
I was starting to have problems with the 05 and it was not really cost effective to keep it
I only have 80 miles on it, So far so good
This Sat I am going to Massachusetts so I will fill her up and check milage
I have a 28' Travel Trailer I will be towing with this rig

Thanks, Jason. Congrats on the new truck. I'm real close to jumping, too. Look forward to hearing how your trip goes.

Happy Trails,

I have almost 40K miles on my 6.2. I have had zero problems and love it. I think the reason there are not a lot of posts is that there are not a lot of problems. It just runs good so people don't complain.

The transmission is a different story as you can see from all the posts on it in other sections.

Yes. Same as some of the diesels. 2-3 shift flare on first drive of the day and 4-5 shift issues.
I am currently waiting on my dealer to replace several parts (solenoids) on my transmission related to the latest TSB, 11-7-10.
My Build date is 5-2010, so maybe they got it fixed on new trucks.

11-07-10 is the TSB for the diesels. The original TSB for the trans issue on the 6.2 is TSB 11-05-19, which has since been superseded by TSB 11-06-11 (it was only a wording change on the TSB, nothing changed in the procedure).

If your truck was built before 4/11/2011, you can get the update and based on your build date, may or may not need the solenoids replaced in the trans (before 11/19/2010 gets the solenoids replaced). Anything after 4/11/2011 got the update on the line.

I had the update done on mine (build date 12/2010, didn't need solenoids) and it's been hiccup-free since then.

BTW - I'm lovin' my 6.2, no complaints here.

Was yours for the 2-3 shift issues? Especially on first drive of day?

Yep, in the morning on the way to work before the trans warmed up and in the evening on the way back home (after a long soak, ~8hrs of sitting).

It would behave most of the time but sometimes it would go from 2nd, long pause, then into 1st, then into 3rd or 4th, it was goofy when it would occur. I could make it do it on command to but haven't been able to since the update.

Talking

Love my 6.2L

Truck was built in June 11, I bought it in July....

Have 3,300 miles on it now, and it's great. Mileage is decent on the road (with 3.73, I can get 16-17mpg on the hwy. City is 11-13 depending on how much I let it idle and how hard I drive it. Both figures are slightly better than my old 6.4 Diesel got.

Power is good...........off the line, it's a tad sluggish, but Ford has the ECM tuned to only open the throttle part-way until you hit 4000 rpm, regardless of throttle position.......this is partially why there's such a burst of power when you hit 4000 rpms.........

It's a heck of a lot simpler than a new diesel, with much less emissions crap to worry about. That's why I made the jump, and I have no regrets. It's my daily driver, and I only tow heavy (8500#) about 2x a year.

Works for me

Mbot, sounds like a great ownership report so far.
