My brother is trying to decide whether to get a 5.4 or V10. If the new 3 valve 5.4 that is being used in the '04 1/2 ton is going to be put in the super duty he will opt for the V8. If they are putting the same 260hp 5.4 in the 2004's SD then he is going to bump to the V10. Thanks

I'm not sure whether it is or not. However, here's my take on the matter. If the 3V 5.4L does arrive to the Superduty series, I wouldn't buy it during the first year anyways. Any engine/transmission has some bugs during the first release (just read some of the early 6.0L threads) so I would advise agains the 3V 5.4L until the second year of running. Also, the V10 still has slightly more horsepower than the 3V and its bound to have more torque since it's a higher displacement. (I haven't seen torque figures on the 3V yet). Gas mileage between the two is nearly the same and the V10 is only a $600 option. Just my thoughts.

When they bumped the 5.4 from 235 to 260
the super duty received it the second year
So it might be the same this time around

Great point guys. I will let him know your opinions. I would hope that since the 5.4 is in many more vehicles than the 6.0PSD that they would get it right the first time. But I do remember the piston slap problem with the 4.6 when it first came out. BTW the new 5.4 has 365ft-lbs of torque at what rpm I don't know. Thanks
