I am getting a little tired of my oil leak and got a wild hair up my butt and test drove a V10 today. Drove about 20 miles and parked it back at the dealer, looked underneath at bellhousing knowing it would be dry because it was not a PSD. Blew my mind, it had wet oil on the bellhousing. What the heck is going on with these trucks?
Ridiculous in today's world that ford cannot figure out how to build it without leaks. It sure shows they put quality as job 1
Ford would probably claim that is was assemble lube leaking out and should stop after a few thousand miles.

My 1999 F-150 had a head gasket leak at 8000 miles. Ford never seen one leak at that spot. They wanted the whole engine. So at 8000 miles they pulled a new engine off the assembly line. I traded that in on a 2001 F-350 with a V-10. I had it for a couple of months and I stopped at the post office to get the mail. I stopped and all of a sudden smoke started pouring out of the engine. I jumped out and opened the hood. I could see nothing. As fast as it started to smoke, the smoke was gone. I took it home and climbed under it to see oil all over the bell housing. It turned out to be a rear main that was dripping on the exaust sheild and pooling in there. It never dripped on the ground, it always caught its own drip. Then my 2004 6.0 started to leak right from new at the rear main. All were fixed the first time, never to happen again. Heck, with the F-150, the first time I went to use my AC it did not work. The problem was the line to the compressor was never hooked up.

People *****ed about the torque converter being rusty so they started putting an oily/paraffin coating on the torque converters. This stuff will sling off and end up as a drip that may appear and can be wiped off and never re-appear.

If you recall, Ford conviently changed their motto to "Built Ford Tough", thus showing us their change in their quality focus.

I am on my second personal V10 and our private company owns 8 V10 and 2 6.0L. No leaks here.
Like all things mechanical, it is entirely possible to get poor seals and improperly torqued components but in the modular motor series I bet the very rare plug blow out is 100 times more frequent than rear main seal leaks.
I take care of my personal truck and the only leaks or seepage in the last 35 years of Ford trucks has been older, near worn out ones. I have never had a leakage "concern" addressed within warranty period on any new Ford product. I guess maybe I am just lucky, or is it perhaps others are not lucky?

With 56K on my '00, I haven't had a drop from mine yet, or any other problems with the engine thus far. Wish I could say that about the front suspension components and front rotors.
55,000 miles on mine with no leaks from the engine. Did have to replace a hose clamp on the transmission cooler line right under the radiator though. Caught it before it ever dripped on the driveway.

The V10 has been a pretty good engine and will tow just fine if your wallet can keep up with the amount of fuel it uses. The biggest problem I have seen is spark plugs blowing out. The new 3 valve engine is sweet and uses a different design plug so maybe that problem is behind us now. As far as low mileage oil leaks from the rear of the Ford engines most of the time it is from assembly and not a major problem.

This is the first time I've ever heard of ANY V10 leaking - I spend a lot of time in the V10 forum on ford-trucks.com, and this is the first I've ever heard of it.
Sounds fishy.
Spark plug blowout is something very rare, there are many of us at the above mentioned forum, and never a one of us has had one let go, it's always someone new that found the site from Google...
Very good engine, good gas mileage for a 415 cube 425ft/lbs monster (in 2001, anyway)...
