06 F-250 Triton V-8 ???

I am looking to buy a 250. I waould rather have a diesel but really can afford it. And I alos dont need a diesel. Would the 5.4 be ok. Whats the gas milage and what is the horsepower of the 5.4? Also does it come with touqueshift tranny?
Thanks and I am new here great site!

All 3 engines have the torqshift as an option as the automatic transmission.

I would strongly recommend the V-10. It's a fairly inexpensive upgrade.

Re: 06 F-250 Triton V-8 ???

If he was correct, then the V-10 would be roughly $7200 cheaper than the powerstroke, with considerably more power than the 5.4L.

In actuality, the 5.4L doesn't get much better mileage than the V-10. I would bet the 5.4L to get around 16 unloaded on the highway, and maybe 11-12 in town. The V-10 would be about 1 mpg worse, sometimes about the same.

Re: 06 F-250 Triton V-8 ???

Not sure what I'm missing, or someone is smoking, but a 6.0L Stroke lists at $5300 additional(currently), the V-10 at $600 additional, and the 5.4L no cost adder(standard). Where's the $8000 coming in? I'm doing the oija board right now to decide on my next move, and I usually pay invoice at worst with my dealer, so that makes the Powerstroke 6.0L at additional cost of roughly $4,664 over the 5.4L, if comparing apples to apples.

As far as the mileage, I'm finding most 5.4L owners are seeing about 13-14 average, the V-10 about 12-13 average (although my wife's Excursion averaged closer to 16 on the long road), and the 6.0L closer to 17-18. I would be interested to know, too what everybody else thinks the 5.4L will do. My dealer won't sell me one because he thinks they are dogs (in a crew cab). The proce is nice, but I don't think anybody will want a used 5.4L in two years with 100k on it. That's me. Good luck. Smoke.

Re: 06 F-250 Triton V-8 ???

I'm pretty sure the trans costs are the same no matter what motor, so it really is just the cost of the PSD. All else being equal it should only be $4-$5K depending on how much you haggle.

He was probably trying to say that most of his trucks are loaded up with other options besides just the PSD, so to find one on the lot would cost you another $8K or so. Either that or they're hosing their customers with add'l markup...

Another thing to consider is that the PSD doesn't give you financing rates (from Ford Credit) that are as a good as the gas engines.

Re: 06 F-250 Triton V-8 ???

I know these engines have evolved, but...

I had a 97 F150 w/ the 5.4 triton, a 99 F250 w/ the V-10 & a 03 F250 PSD. All 3 were XLT extended cabs w/ esof 4wd, the 97 & 99 short boxes, the 03 a long box.

The F150 got 15, the V-10 12, the PSD 18 IN THE SAME CONDITIONS OF DRIVING W/OUT TOWING. I never towed much with the F-150 or the V-10, so I can't speak to their abilities. Personally I wouldn't tow anything over 5k w/out the diesel.

Also I feel the 5.4 is not enough engine in a F-250. The V-10 is a good fit, but until its a "flex-fuel" I'll not get one again. The PSD allows me to use biodiesel w/out sacrificing power, economy, or making modifications. The PSD puts out "less harmfull" emissions than gas to begin with & the use of biodiesel just makes this even better. I really feel that this alone justifies the cost difference of the PSD. Biofuels in general and biodiesel in particular is the MOST IMPORTANT thing an individual can do to protect and enhance our coutry at this time.

Yeah, its that important, even if it cost $5k more.
