06 V-10 Mileage Mods

I have a new (to me) 2006 V-10, DRW 4x4. I see alot of posts about the new 08 V-10's but was wondering about gains for my motor. I am of course looking for better mileage. I am considering the Diablo Sport, but there is a "Powerlabs" place right here in town. Any feedback on Powerlabs, I have not ever heard about them?

The truck has a K&N drop in I am considering getting rid of and installing a cold air induction complete kit.

The truck has a micky mouse exhaust that the prior owner installed, a SMALL muffler with 2 small (2 1/4") outlet pipes out the back. It sounds like crap and I think I will go to a 3 inch single with a good (Magnaflow?) muffler.

Any and all suggestions for better fuel mileage is appreciated, and YES, I know the best item is to keep my foot out of it.

I get the standard 12 mpg. now, and the truck has 22,000 miles on it.

Howdy

I cant help but am in the same boat as a new to me owner on a 05 V10 with 21,000 on it & am looking for any good info on this truck as far as good lil tweaks & general info on this motor as I havent dealt with the Triton family of engines other than a few of the smaller ealier engines with blown spark plugs.

So dontmind me I'm just looking for about the same info as you.

Cheers

I have an 03 and I put on the hypertech power programmer and I instanly got 2 more mpg. I could not believe it. I went from 13 to 15 on the highway. I get 12 in the city but I have a big lift on mine. It was worth every penny. I have 63k on mine.

I see your 5 inch exhaust, did you notice any actual mpg gains??

The only thing I really noticed was the sound. It does sound good. As far as mileage I did not notice much. I am still looking for ways to improve mileage. So any inpute would be appreciated. I put a K&N intake on it and no increase in mpg, none.

On the other Ford gasser forums it seems that alot of V-10 owners have tried many different scemes to try and up both mileage and power. Up to 2006, the Y-pipe, big air and exhaust seem to have made some decent differences. From 2006-2008, no differences were found much except for some gains with a programmer and the dropin air filter. Big air and exhaust changes make it sound better, but dyno gains were not there and mileage gains were less than 1 mpg. You can look at some of the recent Truck Trend mags and they had a big article on this a while back.

I hate to say it, but the ONLY way you'll increase you economy at this point is to get rid of the lift & tires! That's costing you a solid 4 m/g loss right there.

No magic bullet on this one, the increased drag of sticking your truck in the air and letting air under it, is physics at work.

Go take a look at ecomodder.com

Yeah, I know that is where my low fuel mileage is coming from but there is no way I would take off the lift. I dont worry about mileage but I will do simple mods to improve it.

I have figured out that if you don't go over 60 mph, then you can gain 1-2 mpg. Hard to do, but try it sometime.

I have a little trick that I try that if everyone did they would see alot more mileage per tank. I never let my truck get over 2000rpms even during traffic and city driving and when on the interstate. Of course I have 3:73 so I am only turning 2000rpm at 73mph. I started doing this about a year ago and I get almost 80 more miles per tank.
