10W-30? Oops!

Just found out that my friendly neighborhood Jiffy-Lube has been using 10W-30 rather than 5W-30 in my 1999 V10. I sat in the truck during this particular oil change and watched as the highly trained technician grabbed the 10W-30 hose and leaned into my engine compartment. I stopped him and kindly showed him the last page of my owners manual on which the important truck specifications are tabulated. Later, he informed me that the computer indicated that 10W-30 should be used because the break-in period had passed for my truck.

Was the technician full of B.S.? Anyone know of problems I may encounter from running 10W-30 in my truck for the last 9000 miles? I think not, but though it worth asking.

Thanks in advance!

Re: 10W-30? Oops!

It'll be OK, but I'd go ahead and switch to 5W30. The lighter-weight oil flows better when you start the engine.

PS: Doesn't the filler cap also indicate 5W30 oil? My '01 says 5W20, but I don't recall what, if anything, the '00 said on the cap.

I did the same thing last change. It didn't seem to make a difference. I went and changed again today, forgot to tell them again! I made them put a note in the computer, so I won't forget again! Oh well!
