15.2 MPG In The V-10!

Yesterday I went from Pahrump, Nevada to smoggy downtown Los Angeles, Ca. and was driving from 70 to 85 mph with many slow downs to 30-40 mph due to traffic and bucking a bad head wind. When I filled up in LA, I got 15.2 mpg in the ole V-10 CC 4x4 auto 3.73! I was impressed to say the least. The best before on almost the same kind of trip was 13.8 mpg.

Yep! Been there, done that!

Ain't it great!

I have gotten 15 + on several trips, unloaded.

In fact, my last fill up and hand calculations gave me 14 mpg IN TOWN driving. Those #s I can live with!

Re: 15.2 MPG In The V-10!

On a 700+ mile Thanksgiving roundtrip, I got 14.5 on the way there at high speeds (85+ mph for much of the Interstate run). When I slowed down to around the speed limit for the dirve home, I got 16.5 mpg!

Re: 15.2 MPG In The V-10!

I can't get close to that at all with my 4.30's. I shot the 1136 miles round trip to Vegas from San Jose (92 or so miles in/around Vegas included) with less than 90 gallons 'o fuel. Math on that is about 12.57 at 75 MPH on cruise almost the whole way. With the price of gas falling and me never caring much about its cost anyway, I am happy. I could likely tack on another 1 and a half, maybe two MPG if I slowed down a bit (to like 65). It's hard with the speed limit at 70 out in the valley and desert, and that rear end. Hills are nothing and the truck sure sings in the upper R's. The real key to good mileage is consistent speed. The truck will do much better at cruise speed than while speeding up and then slowing for traffic. Use that clicker and keep moving!

Re: 15.2 MPG In The V-10!

Yep
Thats not to hard to believe. I got about 15.5 from Pa to Fl in warm weather.
But however when the temperature dropped to zero the mileage dropped to about 5.
When the temperature came back to to about 32 the mileage came back up to 12.
The V10 is a great motor, lots of power, just a little hard on gas.
I have a PSD now, but I won't get in to that.
