2000 Excursion, V10, 4x4, 81K miles - what to look for?
Any issues I should look for in a 2000 Excursion w/V10? What can I expect to get out of the motor and tranny? Any idea on replacement costs if I need an engine or trans rebuild in the next year or two?
Thanks!

No issues out of the ordinary, a rebuilt/replaced engine/tranny will be just like any other modern engine. Great engine, great power, good fuel mileage, unique sound, very smooth, I love mine. Good luck, enjoy, stop by the Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum and check out the V-10 forum, there's alot of smart folk there, and of course, what's even better is there's all V-10 talk, Ken

Dock,
I just sold a 2000 V10 EX with 90K. Excellent vehicle. Owned from new. Check out ball joints, front sway bar all links and bushing. Some problems with drivers side cab mount. All of the above will cause front end clunks if worn.
I never had any other problems. Of course I took care of it with tranny fluid every 30K and used Mobil 1 for oil changes. Only burned a 1/2 qt every 3K miles.
I jumped to a used 03 with a 7.3L. After 5 years of hearing all the good things about a diesel finally got one. Hope it's as reliable as my old V10. V10's can be had for a good price, just make sure they took care of it. You should not any rebuild for a long time.

Well, it looks like I may have a better deal - 2002 Ex, Limited, V10 and 71K miles for only 3K more. And a much better price on my trade.
Going to look at it tomorrow!

I own a 2000 Excursion V10, and to date the following are the items replaced:
1. door lock actuators in both front doors: warranty
2. window motor in rear passenger door: warranty
3. fuel rail preasure valve 62K: warranty
4. front up & lower ball joints, 76K: warranty
5. rear differental pinion bearing 82K: warranty
6. power steering pump assembly 82K: warranty
7. truck has been rear ended twice, a Tarus, and then a Civic
replaced the tow hitch both times, insurance
Truck runs great, ride as can be expected, overall worth every dime
to own.

As others have said check all..
But I would check the tranny and flush as soon as you get it.. Thats the only real weak link....Check the breaks....
And if it has factory shocks you will need to replace them..
Good luck and keep us posted with whatever you get...
and lets see some pics....

Re: 2000 Excursion, V10, 4x4, 81K miles - what to look for?
Actually, after crunching the numbers and doing some soul searching, the CFO gave approval for me to buy a new truck, rather than a used one, on the condition that I keep it 10 years.
So, I've got a 2005 F-250 XLT CC SWB 4x4 V-10, black with grey cloth. I bought it off the lot, so I had to take what it had, but can someone tell me who in their right mind orders a 4wd, 3/4 ton truck with the 12K trailer package, in Michigan, but does not order it with a limited slip axle?
