2001 f250 question

I'm looking at buying a 2001 F250 supercab 4x4,XL, 5.4L V8, 5spd, 3.73 gears. My questions are: Will this pull my 4000lbs camper okay? What kind of highway commuter mileage should I expect?

Re: 2001 f250 question

In 00' the F250 5.4L 4x4 5sp 3.73 Max loaded tralier weight capacity is 7,400.

So it seems like it can legally pull that trailer..

If you do all highway at 55mph, empty, on relatively flat, I think you'll max out at around 18mpg.

I have a slightly different config:
00' F250 xlt 4x2 5.4L 5sp 4.10LS. I've never done a full tank of all highway. but on one of my longer trips, empty, I got 17.8.

The 4x4 on your truck will hurt highway mpgs some, but the 3.73 should help.

My normal mpg's (mixed city/highway/commuter) is 15.7 mpg.

Re: 2001 f250 question

The truck's curb weight will be about 6,000 lbs, and adding the trailer, you, friends & family and stuff, you'll probably end up around 11,000 to 11,500 lbs total -- well with both the GCWR of 13,500 lbs. You'll also likely be well within the trucks 8,800 lb GVWR.

Milegae will likely be as noted above. I get 16 or so lightly loaded on the open road, and 11 to 12 commuting in suburban traffic. I got 12.8 towing my 3,250 lb trailer on a long trip this past summer.

Re: 2001 f250 question

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'm considering the right combo for me. I just need some time to find a dealer that has this combo. The three in my area only carry diesels. Diesels are cool but I don't really need it. Soon as youth football is over I'll have some time to look more. Right now helping with the football team takes up all of my free time.
