2002 f550 is home!!!!!!

Well the f550 that I have been talking about is in, I drove it home 2 days ago. It is a 2k2 f550 crew cab, 4x4, v10, auto trans, 176wb, 4.88ls, 225/70/19.5 all terrain general all steel tires, flint vynal interior, and red clear coat metalic exterior built in kentucky. I promised my first impressions and here they are. First of all, the v10 is very smooth and responsive, and EXTREMELY POWERFUL!!!, even with the feather foot due the truck being new it would just jump to 65. The cab is very quiet inside at all speeds(I have only had it to 65 so far). The engine is turning 2400 rpm at 65. I am very impressed with the quality of the truck, and the way it is put together. The seats are very comfortable and the interior seems to have everything in the right place. The am/fm radio has a very good sound to it and pick up stations very well. The truck handles very very well, and coners and every thing real well. The surpises the the truck had was the it came with the all terrain tire all the way around, not just on the back like I was told, and it has intermitant windshield wipers. The only things that I was disapointed in was that the ride of the truck without the bed is terrible(But that was fully expected the rear tires are aired up to 95psi from the factory), the headlights aren't nearly as bright as I would have suspected(It has the rectangular sealed beam halogens) and the fact that I don't have the 33,000 dollars to buy one myself. All in all I am very pleased with the truck and feel that ford had made a very well built vehicle, in the 550 and for that fact all the super duty vehicles. Hope all is well, and have a good day, Mason

Re: 2002 f550 is home!!!!!!

Yes nomo, with the 4.88 it will run like (well you know). It is very similar in rpm to the f250/f350 with the 4.30 due to the 19.5 rims. 24oil6, the truck is going to be a minipumper/rescue truck for the local fire dept(Me and my dad and 2 of my brothers are on the dept). We went witht the f550, because we had plans for a few more tools, and I told them to overkill the gvw, due to the fact that it would do alot of offroading. We went with the v10 due to the savings of 5000 dolars, and the fact that the v10 is ALOT faster in the 550 than the psd due to the gears. The truck is replacing a 77 dodge w400 with the 360 v8, it only has 11000 miles on it, but it is on it's 3rd motor and that one is about shot(due to the 5.13). I will try to post pictures of the truck after we get it asembled. If anyone has any questions just ask I will be glad to awnser them. Hope all is well, Mason

Re: 2002 f550 is home!!!!!!

I'd love to have that for our volunteer fire dept. I used to drive a '50s vintage pumper w/ inline gas 6 cylinder. It was embarrasing to respond "code 3", hit the freeway and get passed by 18 wheelers going uphill
I'd kill the siren and just grin and bear it
Of course, by the time I got to a structure fire, we just broke out the marshmallows

Re: 2002 f550 is home!!!!!!

Outpost22, I know the feeling, our neighbors in texas are like that, the poor fellows cannot get funding from the state no mater how hard they try, texas just won't fund the vfd's. They end up having bbq's and what ever else they can come up with just to make enough money to buy gas and keep up their trucks. We are very fortunate here in new mexico to be able to recieve funding from the county and state, it really helps. We are all very excited about the truck. What vfd to you work with? We will start building this one probably next week, and hope to be done before x-mas, before it starts really snowing or anything here. Hope all is well, and I promise to post you all some pictures of the truck when we get done. Mason

Why not post some before, during and after shots? Sounds like an intersting process.

If you need web space, I can help.

Re: 2002 f550 is home!!!!!!

Hey NoMo, I would be glad to get as many pics as I can, I can for sure get a before and after, but the in progress might be tough, but I will try. If you can hook me up with some info for one of those places that all of you use for your trucks, I will put as many pictures as I can get. My email is masonmapp@hotmail.com. If anyone has special request on what pictures they would like to see of the truck, any part of it, you can also email me and I will put them on that site. I have never put pictures on the net before, so nomo, you will have to kinda point things out alittle, and I have alot of computer experience, just not so much with the net, so don't worry about getting technical. Hope all is well, Mason

Re: 2002 f550 is home!!!!!!

This sounds like a really interesting project. I wonder if F-D would be willing to add it as one of their technical articles? You could take a few pictures, and explain the basic process of how to turn a SuperDuty into a pumper truck. I'll bet that the powers that be here would provide space for it.

Re: 2002 f550 is home!!!!!!

I don't use any of the free picture places. I do have about 50MB of space left on our web-host, that you could use to post them. I'll have to upload them, though. (only 1 user ID gets to upload).

Also, I'm not really a web-builder, but I could build a simple page (or pages) and upload them onto the host with whatever explanation you'd like to give about the pics. Or, if you build your own pages, I could upload them instead.

One caution: Your build-up "site" will have to be a subdirectory of my wife's candle site... see the http://xxx.xxx.xxx/nomo in our homepage? Your build-up would have to be http://xxx.xxxx.xxx/firetruck (or whatever you wanted to name it). My web-host doesn't allow sub-domains, so the subdirectory method is all that is available. It's kind of cheesy, but it works and there are no advertisements or download limits.

Re: 2002 f550 is home!!!!!!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I would like to use one of the free sites if I can, and put it in a sig line. I would take you up on your offer nomo, but I would hate to use up your free space, you may need it someday. Again thanks for the offer Nomo. If I can't get it to work, I will be calling on your assistance. Hope all is well, and I will be in touch. Mason

Re: 2002 f550 is home!!!!!!

I tried e-mailing you, but there is some problem between SWBell & hotmail right now. All hotmail messages are being returned to SWBell customers. Last week it was AOL and SWBell. I'll be so glad when I can switch to cable next month.

Anyway, we pay for 100MB of space, but aren't even using 50MB of it. If you can't find a good spot, my offer stands. And, you could still put it in your sig line. If there's something I can do, let me know and I'll try to dig up a qualified person to help.

Re: 2002 f550 is home!!!!!!

Yes, they are.

I only sent 1 mail and it "said" that it was returned as undeliverable. Can't believe their mail servers either I guess.

Actually, I have DSL, so I connect fine & have good speed. It's just that SWBell... shall we say... has some issues with trying to merge with Prodigy and now Yahoo. Sad part is that Cox (the cable company) uses @home which just filed for bankruptcy protection. So, even if I switch to a cable modem, looks like the ISP will still be "iffy".
