I believe that both of those "improvements" were made in the transmission. Unfortunately, performance and feel are very subjective terms. What may be improved to one person is worse to the next guy.
The engine itself doesn't appear to have changed any.
I test drove a 2001 V10 before i ordered my 2002 and i can tell you my 2002 shifts more solid like they should. The 01'slid into gear so soft you couldn't hardly tell(hard on tranny) glad they fixed them.

I've always thought my 99 shifted way to soft. I used to crank the stereo and cover the tach up when I'd have a passenger, and ask them to tell me when it shifts. They can't do it.
Is there any retrofit I can do to make it shift more solid (easier on the tranny)? Like a chip change or something?

How about the Banks TransCommand?? Anybody have any experience with this system? Their literature states:
"The electronic module senses the load and commands the transmission to raise the hydraulic pressure accordingly. Light-throttle shifts are smooth and firm, while full-throttle or heavy-load driving produces solid, decisive shifts. Excessive clutch slippage is eliminated, extending transmission life"
I was thinking about installing one with the Banks Stinger w/ Ottomind next spring when Dubya sends me my tax refund.

I installed a Banks Transcommand on my '93 7.3L diesel at the same time I installed the Banks sidewinder Turbo. All I can say is Shifts went from sloppy to extremly sharp. Too sharp for some people, during hard acceleration it would actually snap your head back. It got to the point that when I new it was about to shift I'd let up a little on the throttle just to ease the shift a little.
I've had the Transcommand installed for about six months and a few thousand miles, including a couple long trips with a travel trailer. Very happy with the shift quality provided by the Transcommand. Haven't noticed any 'too harsh' shifts.
Save your money on the Ottomind, V10Gunner, The performance benefit isn't worth the cost, IMHO.

dbuck- Why do you think the performance gains of the Ottomind are not worth the money? Do you have the Ottomind in addition to your Powerpack? If so, how much extra was the Ottomind? From the literature that Banks provides, it seems like in addition to the extra HP and torque, the engine is supposed to respond better. Is this bunk ??
I'm trying to do a cost/benefit analysis (i.e. Hp and torque per dollar) and can't seem to justify the jump in price (and subsequent decrease in power/dollar) to go to the full powerpack.
Thanks for the reply.

I received a quote from Banks a few months ago, and the woman who wrote to me stated that for the cost, the performance benefits weren't worth it for the ottomind. She said it strictly improves 0-60 times and that is only in the tenths of a second-
Hmmm, looking at the figures, it does appear that the Ottomind has a greater effect on peak torque rather than horsepower, but my calculations indicate that this additional torque cost less per lb/ft than the torque provided by the Stinger itself. Maybe I'm spending too much time looking at numbers!

I think the 7-8 hp and 12-13 lbft the Ottomind provides is overpriced. IMHO the best bang-for-the-buck is with the PowerPack. It's a great fitting system that provides a noticable power improvement.
Customer service could use some improvement, though. They are notorious for shipping damage also, according to the folks at the dealer I bought from. The packaging is pretty flimsy.
You will find the best price on the system at other than Banks. I found the best price at Fuel Injection, in Allentown PA. Rick Blewitt will set you up.
