At first this wasn't even a thought for me...but I started looking at the Tundra's, and then I thought about the SD gassers...
I'm looking at a 2 or 4wd (prefer 4wd), but curious what the out the door prices y'all are paying for the CC's? How much off MSRP can I expect to get off the new trucks?
I only tow an off-road truck, about 7k lbs, so really a Tundra is fine, but I love my F-250, it's just a reg. cab, and I need the crew now. What kind mileage are y'all getting out of the new V-10's? I refuse to pay $7000 for the diesel that only gets 12 mpg...
Thanks for the help-

If you get an X-plan pin then you can expect to get a truck for around $300 under invoice less incentives. My truck had a sticker of $44k and with incentives at the time, I paid $37k. That was for a pretty loaded V-10, Lariat, 4X4, etc. If you tow much, then get the 4.30 rear. I got the 4.10 and am getting about 11.5 mpg at 6k on the odometer. Not great, but for a gasser F250, not bad considering the .70 cent difference in diesel and gasoline.

WHat is the x-plan pin? I'm looking at a fairly basic, XLT 4x4 or Lariat 4x4, V-10, auto. MSRP is about 38-39000. Wonder if I could go for 34000? 11.5 MPG...hmm, I'll get the 4.10's. I won't be towing much over 10k. I don't need any fancy bells and whistles, just a truck that can tow my stuff. I would like power windows/locks etc...

I would suggest you order one or find one like this: Cab of your choice(SC,CC,etc), V-10, 4.10 LS rear, Lariat 4X4(package includes alot of goodies), snow plow package (for the $85 it cost, you get some nice additions even if you don't plan on plowing snow), Torque Shift transmission (there are 2 automatic trannies available, but pay extra for the TS as it is super). You can add many more items; I also got the security package which has the chip key, etc, also if you tow, the integrated brake system and up fitter switches are cool. I upgraded to the fancy Audiophile sound system and it is very nice. Camper package comes in handy as the wiring and springs are already setup. These are my suggestions. Go to http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?&CODE=00
and you will find plenty of X-pins. Good luck.

I have been thinking about the same thing. Spend the holiday with my father and drove is 6.0 around. With diesel costing at least $0.30 more then gas, why would I not get the V10 instead of the new 6.4. 6.4 is 10x as much as the V10. Do we really think these new diesels are going to give us the longevity (and low maintenance) we have come to love to justify the higher fuel cost and purchase price???

I was pricing an '08 using x plan I have through my work and for a V-10 SC 4X4 XLT with 4.10 LS rear, torqshift auto, and towing package, I was at just under $30K. I ended up finding an '05 with more goodies and only 15K miles on it for a nice price and went with that (no 8 week wait). I averaged between 11.75 and 11.90 on the last 3 tanks of gas. I tow a 10K lb 5th wheel with the 4.10 ls rear with no problem at all except it does get real hungry for the go go juice (8-9 mpg), but I only tow accasionally and not for long distances, so overall I am actually saving on fuel costs over my previous diesel truck.

What am I missing here? TWO automatic transmissions available? To the best of my knowledge, if he's looking for a gasser, there is only one (a Torqshift) available, and another (Torqshift) for the diesel. Your post makes it sound like there are two to choose from for each engine.

When I ordered mine, the dealer told me that the torque shift transmission was an extra and that the regular 4 speed automatic was considered standard. I could be mistaken, but that's what I recall. That was just for the V-10, not the diesel.

I have been considering this also. Difference is I am in a 07 Tundra. Yes I know my sig does not reflect this. For my current towing needs the Tundra does great, but the wife and I have decided a Slide in camper would be nice. I am not going to do a slide in with the Tunda. It has good power but the springs are soft compared to a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. I had a chance to drive an 08 v-10 crew xlt. I think it had a 3.73 rear and it felt week. I would go with the 4.10 or wait and see if they put a 6 speed torque shift in and go with the 4.30. I will say it is a very very nice truck. I really like what they have done with the 08.

From what I have read you can't get the V10 with the 3.73 rears. I thought it only came with the 4.10 or the 4.30. Is this correct or am I wrong???

You are correct. You can get up to 5.38 in the chasis cabs!
WOW, What are you all thinking??? you all are going with the 6.8 because diesel is .30-.40 more a gallon, that would suck if the diesel got the same lousy mileage as the gasser!! Do the math, driving 10k a year it would only take 3 years to save enough money to justify the added 10k to the sticker price, then after that its all savings, plus the diesel will out-pull the gasser anyday!!! you have to look at the whole picture, sure diesel is more expensive but when they get 3-8 mpg better, then the choice is simple. my brother just bought an 07 f-350 with the gas disentagrater 6.8, he is crying the blues bad now, we pull 10k.lb trailers and he uses almost twice the fuel I use in my 98 cummins and I can leave him in the dust uphill downhill and upside down!!
...you have to look at the whole picture, sure diesel is more expensive but when they get 3-8 mpg better...
I think the OP is talking about buying a new truck, which leaves him the choice of the 6.8L and 6.4L in the Ford. This board shows most are getting about 13-16mpg is the best average for the 6.4L, and about 10-13 for the 6.8L. So, maybe your 3mpg is accurate, but 8 sure isn't anywhere close. I drive 50-60k a year, and even with my current 2007 6.0L pulling close to 17mpg average, it still is hard to justify a diesel when a V-10 will pull 14 or better on the highway for $6,000 less in initial truck cost.
