In the past I have read about some of you having problems with the 4.3 rear end "groaning" or "howling" at highway speeds. Has anyone ascertained the cause of this? Is this a wide-spread problem?
Thanks.

I have the 4.30 gears & had a groan/howl at speeds over 70mph. The noise wasn't due to the rear-end, though. Mine was caused by an un-balanced driveshaft.
I have the same problem with my 2001 CC V10 4.30s. At 3000 miles, A the truck developed a vibration/audible rumble at about 60 plus mph. It is similar to the sound and feel of a bad U joint. Anyway, I swapped back to my stock tires and rims. No change. swapped the driveshaft 180 degrees, no change. The dealer checked my driveline angles and they were right on. Now they are telling me that it is a vibration caused by the exhaust(Y pipe). I have had it into the dealer 3 times already and no fix yet.
MNguy,
I picked up my truck from the service department on Thursday. They keep trying to tell me that it is the Y pipe as well. I'm leaning towards NoMos solution for the problem, but I can't seem to get the service department to try it. I'm not sure what to do. If I get a resolution to this problem I will post it. On another note, does anyone happen to have the rattling front brake caliper problem?

I really suspect the driveshaft too(balance), however there is supposedly a new(try number 2) Y pipe. This one is not necked down to 1.5" like the last fix attempt. It is also supposed to have a flex pipe built in to help eliminate vibration. They said I should have one in 2 - 4 weeks.
