5.4 150 vs 6.8 250

i was wondering which truck was faster the f-150 with the 5.4 or the f-250 with the 6.8 V-10 considering all things equal both 4x4 and supercab.

Re: 5.4 150 vs 6.8 250

The V10 in either a F250 or 350 will spank a 5.4. Unless, of course you are talking about the supercharged 5.4 Lightning...

The I guess we would have to supercharge the V10 to make things fair and balanced...

Re: 5.4 150 vs 6.8 250

I'll go with the F150 & 5.4L engine.

MUCH lighter truck with a superior HP/weight ratio.

i am still banking on the v-10 here...there's no replacement for displacement.

Re: 5.4 150 vs 6.8 250

I am an oiler and I will still put money on the v-10 in stoplight derby until you toss a load in the bed...then i'll take my PSD...My guess (no starting a flame match) is that the PSD is probably not too far behind the v-10 in stoplight derby unloaded. I am sure the gasser would likely have the advantage...but not by much...

Pray it's not a Lightning. I drove one recently. WOW. That about sums it up.

I would fear for my license if I were to own one. The acceleration is something you need to experience. Especially in a pickup truck!

Re: 5.4 150 vs 6.8 250

The F-150 with the 5.4 will blow the V-10 away bad. It's not even in the same ball park, like Nomo said the power to weight ratio is the difference. If the F-150 supercrew had a bigger bed thats what I would be driving.

Re: 5.4 150 vs 6.8 250

Hate to say it guys but there is a couple of 5.4s here that can eat my stock trucks lunch, and they do neither is stock but also neither has a blower, just intake, exhaust and chip. They really move OUT! The two guys that I work with have 01 F150 SC manual trans 4X4 5.4 V8 and parked next to my truck look to be 2.5' shorter in length and about 4" shorter in highth.

There is also a local feller with a 99 F-150 that has 5.4 blown,chipped,NO2,dual exh, 6" lift, BIG tires, 4X2 that can hook up and lift the front end when he bangs 2nd gear!!!!! Very cool and Fast truck.

But all things being equal as stated in the original post: I think that a stock 4X4 F-150 w/5.4 and a stock F-250 with the 6.8 would be about neck to neck in a stop light war.

Now, I also do not want to start a flaming war. BUT.... you PSD guys have really got to give it up.. at least here in the nether world of GAS sniffers

Every SuperDuty owner here with V10/V8 acknowledges that the STUMP pulling torque of the PSD has a very necessary place on the road hauling WEIGHT.

And with VERY few exceptions, (the fellers that have over $5000 invested in STEROIDS), the PSD SuperDuty will never blow the doors off a stock V10 SuperDuty.

Now if you want to dispute it and vent please feel free, but I would like to point out, as I have over in the "other" and "upgrades & aftermarket" forums, that none of the Gas sniffing V10 owners here have ever stated that the PSD's were not cool, fast, big, awsome, stinky, weight haulers. In fact many of us here have admited envy of, and anticipate future ownership of the mighty PSD.

SO... if you feel that you must thump you chest and brag about your oil burning MONSTER truck, then have at it, but remember that those of us that actually own the V10 are extereemly pleased with the power and speed and handling of our trucks.

Pound for pound the V10 is less expensive to buy and maintain and untill you can find diesel equal to or less expensive than 87 octane the MPG issue is moot. Here it costs 16-20c more per gal for diesel and has been that way for the last 1.5 years.

Just as I don't like the PSD guys bashing the V10, I also don't think the V8 should take unfair hits. I have been very impressed with the trucks that I see with the V8. But I think anyone with the big truck and the 5.4 who trys to haul 7000lbs of TT down the road at 75mph is nuts.

OK off soap box... no need for nomex because I am fire proof!

I did not think you could get a manual trans with 5.4 in the F150?

Re: 5.4 150 vs 6.8 250

I would go with the 150. Lighter. The 5.4 is around what 260hp now. It'll probably rev a litter quicker. But the weight is the big thing.

Re: 5.4 150 vs 6.8 250

Good catch JamesDC! I just went out and looked. One of them is an auto and the other is V8 badged maunal so I asked the owner and he said that he had the 4.6 V8... wanted the 5.4 but FoMoCo only will do auto trans with that motor. Live and learn.. I made an assumption and well you know the rest.

A friends former '99 F-150 5.4L SC would blow my V10 away, empty. Last fall we hauled our boats over the passes to Utah.

Now he drives a '01 F-350 PSD CC, hoping to leave me as far behind this year as I did him last year.
