Re: 5.4 fuel milage??

My neighbor's pretty much got the same truck. Says he gets 14 no matter how or where he drives.

Re: 5.4 fuel milage??

For my signature truck, I get 16 empty on the highway at 65 mph using 87 octane gas.

For my suburban commute this winter, I'm getting 10.

Re: 5.4 fuel milage??

I have a 2001 F-250 4X4, supercab, shortbed, 5.4L, 5 spd., 4.10 axles. At 3500 miles I am getting 13.5. Around town I drive conservatively. On the highway I cruise at 75 mph. Mileage seems to be getting slightly better with each tank. I am hopeful, but doubt I will do better than 14. If I would slow down on the highway I think I would do better. I am sold on the 4.10 axle. It provides plenty of power when you need it. I am soon to get a camper shell. I hope it may increase my mileage. Also, don't hesitate to get the Rancho 9000 shocks. They improve the ride considerably.

Re: 5.4 fuel milage??

My father bought a 2000 F250sd super cab short bed 4x4 with a manual and started out with pretty good gas mileage on the highway. I think he said 17 or 18 something. But, that was with great conditions or something. He has a cap and also a system one rack and now doesn't do so hot at all. Lower teens on highway and less around town but never in the single digits. He has a 3.73 axle though. It seems if your dead empty you can do better than 14, but it might be the axle(3.73). One other thing. He had the transmission replaced after owning the truck for about a month. It was really loud sounding when shifting. Clunks, clanks and all. The dealer said it was the heavy-duty tranny and that was all, but they still warrantied it after a tech took a ride in it and decided it was not right. New one still does the same thing, and I've driven it. It does seem awfully stiff and loud. Could just need some breaking in though. Anyhow, good luck.
