Re: Is 5.4 good for a crew cab

Enjoy your new truck Pigroasts. I know you will.

To answer the above posts. I have 3 friends who have the V10 and I have driven one. I love the engine and how it sounds. The torque is great. While it doesnt have the low end of a diesel it nonetheless is a very good engine. It just sucks gas. Two of my friends barely get over 10mpg and for the way I use the truck I just didnt want to be stopping at every corner gas station. That has been my experience with them and I dont mean to call any of you a liar and hopefully you guys get better mileage. In my experience with the V10 I just could not buy it. I would love to have the power believe me. Hell I am a guy and we like big toys and big power.

I average 13-14 mpg and on one trip hauling my motorcycle to the Smokies and coolers and gear got 16.3 mpg. I was shocked but it had good power going up the hills in Tenn.

Re: Is 5.4 good for a crew cab

Congratulations PIGROASTS,

I hope your new truck is all you expect it to be. I wouldn't totally discount how these 5.4 guys feel about their truck. They seem to like em for a reason and they do sound better with pipes. Sam says he knows of 3 V-10's getting dismal mileage there must be something to it. All I know is ours does pretty fair. Maybe V-10's are similar to PSD's. Mileage on those are all over the page. I still think your making the right choice. A truck this strong needs an engine to match.
Not dissin the 5.4 dieselstop brothers! JMHO!

Comparable hp wise, 300hp may be right for the standard 6.0 Chevy. Guy I work with just bought a Denali with a 6.0 and it's rated at 325hp. That may not be standard across the board though.

Enjoy your trucks amigos.

Re: Is 5.4 good for a crew cab

Congrats Pigroasts on your new truck!

This debate will always rage, but my motto for this is "it is always better to have to much truck and not need it, than to not have enough and need it".

I have a V-10 CC LB 4x4 and I commute 100 miles each day. I religously track my mileage by hand and I get 13MPG on average, even with my foot all over the pedal. Yes the 5.4 will get you by, but buying a truck like this is not about getting by. Enjoy your truck!

Re: Is 5.4 good for a crew cab

Well i think after all the posts i read , ive made the right choice for Me.I am sure the 5.4 would be just fine for what i tow and how i drive, but after all the posts and seeing milage is not that drastic between the two, the V-10 sounds like the right choice for Me. What also helped the decision was the guy who orders trucks at the dealership, said the 5.4 would do me just fine for what i was going to be using it for. But he said the V-10 was one of the smoothest engines he ever drove in a truck, he said you can hardley hear the engine run. So now i cant wait till it comes in. Thanks again to all
