What are you 5.4 owners getting for mileage in a SD? I am looking at buying a CC 4X4 and don't think I am going the diesel route so I am curious as to the mileage and to a lesser extent the performance of the 5.4. I know it wont be a diesel, but how do you like it?
My 5.4 has been perfect for my needs...I tow cars ranging in size from modern compacts to classic muscle and I have never been left wanting. I don't often have the bed full up though so I can't say about that.
I haven't done anything to the engine yet short of custom straight pipe duals and Royal Purple. I get a consistent ~14mpg and when towing still get ~11. I know a tuner/chip would help in both mileage and power so that's probably next...soon as I stop spending money on other crap.
I love my V8, wouldn't have it any other way...heck I just bought myself an '04 P71 with a 4.6 in it and she hauls like you wouldn't beleive!

I've got a '04 E350 15 pass with the 5.4, with my daily gear in it I'm running about 8600 lbs. My mileage ranges anywhere from 10 to 12.5 mpg, depending how hard I drive it.

That doesn't mean much. How fast were you driving? My mileage will vary by 3 mpg's between 60mph and 80mph. What there a tailwind? Wind speed and direction also have a large impact on gas mileage with our trucks.
My wife's F-150 will get 16-17 if you drive nice w/edge on it. Around town only 13-14 mpg. I would expect a couple of miles/gallon lower due to weight/aerodynamic differences depending on your gearing in your rearend.

Loaded with the truck camper and pulling the boat or quads I get a whopping 10 MPGon the Highway, city I get between 14 and 15. Of course I didn't buy an F250 for the mileage.
