7700 Payload for F150

Been to the local dealer and priced SC SB 250SD XLT 4x2 AT. Might be out of my price range. The XLT 150 is only $800 less. Have been pricing out F150 SC SB XL with 5.4 AT Cruise, air, LS 3.55 and 7700 GVW.on Edmund's. Need more payload than the regular F150 Could save about $3000 Any feedback on the 150 with 7700 payload would be appreciated.

Re: 7700 Payload for F150

Well... it (in most states) has the 4R70W in it not the 4R100 tranny. It has a strange 7 lug wheel that is hard to find many wheel chioces for. It is the old F250 *Light Duty* that they re-baged, and rightfully so, as it is not and never was a class two truck as the badge F250 would have indicated. It does have a nice overhead console and independent front suspension and rides real good. If I hadn't needed/wanted a little more payload (8800 instead of 7700) I probably would have bought one. But I did not find the price difference to be as great as you are stating. I was only $500 more for a F250SD Supercab 5.4L auto XLT and they weighed within 200 pounds of each other comparably equiped. Plus, if you consider that captains chairs were no charge in the F250 then it was actually cheaper than the F150 7700 if you wanted captains chairs.

Re: 7700 Payload for F150

Cphilip is right that this is the "old" (97/98) reguler 250, available only on the 139" wb frame.

It is RPO 627:
Payload Pkg. --3045-lb. • 2WD Styleside w/139" (GVWR 7700-lb.) (Req's 99L 5.4L Engine & Auto Trans.-44E) Includes Larger Brakes; H.D. Frame, Springs & Shock Absorbers; H.D. Electrical/Cooling Group; 3.73 Axle Ratio; Argent (XL) or Chrome (XLT & Lariat) Styled Wheels & (5) LT245/75R16D BSW Tires.

I think RPO 44E is the 4R100 AT...

I had a 97 F150 SC SB 5.4 (235 HP), E4OD AT w/ the 3.55 ls axle -- it had a 6,250 GWR. I sold it to buy a SD CC when the kids outgrew the rear. It towed my 3,250 lb trailer rather well.

BTW, it seems to me the rear of the F150 SC is larger (more legroom) than the SD SC... I thought it was a good truck (sold it to my neighbor -- he loves it!).

Re: 7700 Payload for F150

Crewser, I crawled under five of them here in South Carolina in February of this year. 2000 F150 7700's that is. All of them had the 4R70W in em. "U" code (4R70W) on the door sticker as well (not "E" as it should be for the 4R100). Dealers finally admitted "no it wasn't the 4R100". My eyes did not decieve me. Go figure? I was suprised too. I think some states get em (4R100) and some states don't. "California" emmissions thing I think. Other states require this "low emmissions package", not just California. Mine does not. His might not either. That's why I went with the Superduty here in SC.

Yes, I think you are right about the rear leg room. Seems a little larger to me too.

Re: 7700 Payload for F150

cphilip,

You appear to be right re the 2000 MY, but 2001 MY appears to have a new configuration:

CA and NE states get the 4R100 (44E) w/ the 5.4,
Other states get the 4R70W (44U) w/ the 5.4,
and
All F150s w/ 5.4 and RPO 627 get the 4R100.

Info for both years from kbb.com; I hope I read it right!

Elii,

This is something to verify w/ your dealer...

Re: 7700 Payload for F150

And I think it was absoulutely stupid not to put the 4R100 in ALL of the 7700's. If it wasn't for that fact I would be driving one right now. Hope you are right and they changed it.
