99 F250 6.8L

I am experiancing some strange problems with my 99 f250.
about every 200 miles or so it feels like it is misfiring on one or more cylinders. then the RPM's will drop to around 500 and I have no power.

if I stop turn the key off and then start it again everything is fine for another couple of hundred miles.
does anyone have any ideas?

Re: 99 F250 6.8L

Just an update on this problem. Today I discoverd that there was a superchips module(gold) plugged into the front of the PCM.(I bought the truck used two weeks ago with 63,000 miles) I havn't been able to find any information about this module on the internet. I appears that it just doesn't exsist.
Does anyone know what this chip is? Can I run without it installed?

Yes you can pull it that is an aftermarket performance chip.
And if it is not taped tightly into place it will have intermitent contact and cause the issues you are having.

Don't throw it away--you might miss it and put it back in.

Re: 99 F250 6.8L

Thanks for the info.
Pulled it out and have not had a problem since. It was not taped in so I may try to put it back in and and tape it down to see if I still have problems

Remember the superchip needs 91 octane or higher.
