99 f250 v10 175000miles... - Diesel Forum

im looking at a 99 f250 4x4 reg. cab. manual transmission truck, w/ 175000. it was used as a work truck carrying building supplies... the bed is a lil roughed up, but was not used to tow.

i was wondering if there are any precautions i should know about before buying a v10 w/ high miles, ive heard these motors are strong and reliable, and last a long time. are there any mechanical/electrical parts that are prone to failure? are there things i should look for when looking at the truck?

any input would be greatly appreciated.

The V10 got a Significant bump in HP in 2001. Most likely that 99 has 3.73 gears and is going to feel a bit sluggish. Other than that, if the truck has been well maintained I'd say the motor will be pretty solid for a few more years. I've heard of a couple V10's in Cargo vans pushing 300,000.
