Re: Aftermarket Muffler

SDV10, You have any pictures of your truck? I would love to see it. Considering a similar setup. 4" and 36/12.50/16 on stock lariat wheels. Comments welcome. Should I go ahead with the 6" instead?

Re: Aftermarket Muffler

Oh yeah I'm also planning exhaust work. Think I'm gonna go with a custom dual setup. No mufflers just run the cats as mufflers. I've heard several like this and they sound good. A low rumble at idle, but loud when you get on it.

Re: Aftermarket Muffler

It is my understanding that the Banks cat back system includes a Dynaflow muffler that maintains only .6 lbs back pressure vs. the stock muffler 4 lbs. Of course the Banks cat back has a 3 1/2" tail pipe and 4" tip.

I have called around my area to muffler shops and inquired about any systems they could make. I have not found any that can do 3 1/2" pipes.

When it comes time for me to upgrade the exhaust, I am going with Banks. JBA, Gibson, Borla, all make quality products I am sure, and guys here like them. Banks is just my opinion. They have done a lot of research and I like the dyno results they site for each application.

Re: Aftermarket Muffler

Borla, Gibson, Edelbrock, and Dynomax make SS mufflers. All are OK. I used a Edelbrock SS RPM muffler on my 97 4.6L and thought it was OK. The Dynomax SS Ultra-Flows are a good muffler too. Look here for info.

I have the setup you are talking about. I have true dual custom exhaust, dual HiFlow cats, and dual SuperTurbo mufflers. IMHO, it sounds like a 6er on 'roids. Sure I has a low rumble that ALMOST resembles a V-8, almost, but after idle, forget it.
Just alot of annoying noise. I get alot of crap from other people who hear it. I have a Banks PP on order, I have heard the sound of that setup, and I like the power gains.
