Another question on Flowmaster mufflers-

Ok- I was going to order the flowmaster 40 series 2 chamber from Summit, but they don't show a 3inch in/out muffler. Don't the V-10's have a 3inch exhaust, or is it smaller. Also, they have the 40 series listed around $55. I see the 30 series has 3in. in/out, and is marked around $108. Can anyone help, maybe abendx?

Re: Another question on Flowmaster mufflers-

I have the 30 series on mine which is 3 in and out. It's a fairly mellow muffler sound wise. It does have a nice deep sound while cruising around town, out on the HWY you won't even notice its there. It did give me a much quicker throttle response and seems to have helped the power some what. I also have a Diablo sport chip which really woke it up. I routinely get 12MPG as a daily driver running the mid grade gas. Hope that helps some.

Re: Another question on Flowmaster mufflers-

I ordered part #17229 from Summit Racing. It is a 3" cat-back system that uses the 70 Series Big Block II muffler. I have had it on my truck for about a week. I consider the sound a little throatier but not too loud. After a tank of gas, it looks like I'm getting at least 1 more mpg.

Re: Another question on Flowmaster mufflers-

jharr, do you have a sound clip? I was thinking of getting that same setup. I don't want it to be too noisy. Also has the aluminized coating started to rust yet? I was wondering if there is any problem with going stainless to aluminized also? (electrolysis rotting it out or does the heat slow that process down)

Re: Another question on Flowmaster mufflers-

Sorry,
I really don't have the hardware to let me record it.

I can tell you that at first I was a little dissapointed. I was expecting it to be a little louder. Rolling down the highway, it really doesn't sound that much different than stock. You can hear the difference at higher RPMs.

I talked to the techs at flowmaster. They explained that the v10 has the same exhaust "pulse" rate as a v6. If you go with a more agressive muffler it will sound like a v6. This doesn't.

My objective was improving power and MPG. I believe I have achieved both.

Regarding Aluminized / Stainless:
First I live in Oklahoma where exhaust systems aren't as affected.
I have had both, and down here it really hasn't made much difference, except for the cost.
