I currently have a '99 4 x 4 5.4l, auto, club cab. I replaced the oem shocks with Bilstein gas shocks - what a big improvement in handling and ride quality! Set me back around $400 and 3 hrs of my time to install them. Money well spent.

If so what was it, and was it worth the money?

First...my truck F250 SD XLT SC Island Blue V-10 Auto 3:73LS and almost every option except ESOF. I have added Jet Performance Chip Upgrade, K/N Filter, and BORLA Cat-Back exhaust system. Not sure if I can really tell any difference as all items were on before truck had 100-miles on it. I ordered my stuff from Truck Performance Center and got a SWEET deal from Dave, the salesman. All of these items were at my house within one week and cost with shipping right around $750.00. I did have a buddy at the local exhaust shop put on the BORLA, took him about 45-minutes. If you do go aftermarket, I would recommend taking it to a shop...he spent 1/2-hour just getting the old system off. The problem was the connecting pipe between the muffler/converter. You have to re-use that pipe with the BORLA so he could just torch it off. I now have about 3000 on the truck and LOVE the sound of the BORLA when the hammer is down, kind of sounds like a VIPER. I must say for a 6800# truck, it moves right along and has no problem roasting both of the 265-AT tires. Hope that helps...any other questions just let me know.....

An easy way to seperate the exhaust pipes at the joint is to use an air powered cut off tool. Make two cuts parallel with the pipe just deep enough to cut the outer pipe. Pry the cut area apart with a screwdriver and your done. If you're careful, these cuts could be welded up and the old system reinstalled.
