Does anyone know the logic behind Ford only offering the 4x4 V-10 with the 4.10 axle? I have a 6.0 that I am about to trade. I had a V-10 several yrs ago that I was pleased with and it had a 3. something ratio. Could it be the 18" tires?

You're assuming correctly, Ford dropped the 3.73 rear end when they changed the wheel size from 16", and the Torque-shift trans was introduced. As I told the Chebbie driver after I unstuck his truck with my 40 HP tractor "It's all in the gearing...".

To say yes to this would require knowing the exact outside diameter of the tires and gear ratios of each gearset in the transmission for both the old and new drivetrains. The short answer, as wickedsprint said, is "in theory". Here's a LINK to a website with some handy calculators to make the calculations a bit easier for you.
