banks power pack

Has anyone done the complete Banks Powerpack System and Ottomind chip to a V10. What success did you have and what did it cost.

Re: banks power pack

I have the Borla headers/cat-back and like them alot. Banks is the "Cadillac" of the header systems. They workd well too. Do a search on "Banks" in the gasser section.

Re: banks power pack

I just installed the Banks Stinger system on my 02 V10 auto 4.30. I did not get the ottomind yet because I plan on getting the headers and new y-pipe in a few weeks, and I would have had to had my ottomind recalibrated for the headers, so I decided to wait until I bought them and then get the Ottomind. The Stinger system is the cat back exhaust with the Banks ram air kit. The truck has really awakened especially in the upper rpm range. I can only imagine that the headers will add even more impressive gains, since the stock manifold and y-pipe are so wimpy looking.

Re: banks power pack

YIKES! Do NOT buy from Banks!!! They will not under cut the dealers. The Powerpack should be about $1600 or so without the Ottomind. Banks says +56 hp, +67 lb-ft torque and I believe that is close. I have not read one negative post concerning headers and power and they have been discussed back and forth since 1999.

Re: banks power pack

I bought my Stinger system from a company in Allentown PA. called Fuel Injection. I paid $492.15 for the Stinger system and $233.10 for the Transcommand, which increases line pressure for the 4R100 trans.. The total with shipping to Mass. was $749.15. I dealt with a woman named Theresa who really knew her stuff and was very helpfull. Her direct line is (815) 444-1763, the main number for Fuel Inj. is (800) 322-9609. The price she quoted me to buy the headers and ottomind later was: headers and y-pipe around $800.00, ottomind around $375.00. I plan on getting both soon. I hope this helps.

Re: banks power pack

I've got the Powerpack on my 2000 Excursion V10. No Ottomind though. The Powerpack is a noticible improvement. The engine is free reving and throttle response is quicker. Less throttle is required to get her movin'! I wish I'd have had it dyno'd before and after, or ran it through the 1/4 B and A.

A guy with the handle 'waawi' has his dyno results after his install posted on his web site. Do a search and you'll find it.

I also purchased my system through Fuel Injection. Rick gave me a decent price, and Theresa helped me straighten out on a couple of shipping problems from Banks. I'd highly recommend them for price and service. Diesel Injection Service is another decent place to purchase Banks products. Avoid Banks for your purchase. I think thier salesman work on commission

Re: banks power pack

How come no Ottomind?, do you use another chip or is the Ottomind not really needed?

Re: banks power pack

At the time is was looking at the system, the Ottomind wasn't available for My code. Theresa helped talk me out of it, as the improvement was meager for the price.

I've since looked into other chips, and I like the Hypertech programmer, but it's not available for the 2000 up V10's. Diablo is coming out with a new chip, per Ken Payne on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts site, that has the capability of switching between 3 programs! That would leave stock, for my daily driving. I could use regular gas. Then a couple more extreme programs for towing and hauling.

Re: banks power pack

I am definately ordering the Banks powerpack from Fuel Injection in Allentown Pa. You guys who say Theresa there is helpful and knowledgable were right on target. My truck is coming in three weeks and I want to do this install right away before everything underneath gets dirty and rusts. If everything I have read in these pages is correct I should be real happy with my decision. The $3800 saved by not ordering the PSD are allready paying off. :-)
