difference between 305hp and 362hp V10s in RVs?

I couldn't tell through search if this question has been asked before.

The class A chassises use a 362hp 6.8L vs. the smaller van chassied class Cs with only 305hp. What is the difference? heads, cams, pcm tuning, etc? My E450 chassis with 340-350hp would be nice...

thanks!

The difference is 3 valve compared to 2 valve.

Oh wow-- for some reason, I thought they all had 3 valves in the later model years after about 2002 or so.

thanks--

For some reason (read:money) the E series never got the 3 valve engine. The Econoline program is about the stingiest program in the company.

Re: difference between 305hp and 362hp V10s in RVs?

It has to do with the room under the Dog House of a Class C motorhome. The engine compartment is so encased that it is difficult to keep the compartment cool. If you check any of the Class C forums you will see a number of post talking about how hot the passenger floor area gets. However the 2V V-10 has plenty of grunt for moving around a Class C at better than highway speeds.

The 3V engine started in 2005. It was never installed in an Excursion. All V10 Excursions are 2V. I don't remember the horsepower from 2001.
