Re: Which engine ??

In my never to be humble opinion, the Powerstroke, the 6.8L, and then the 5.4L.

Re: Which engine ??

I would go read the van history as some of them have the quigley.

The diesel weight up front in a van will make it handle kind of like a pickup where the rear end is light. The diesel will aggravate this, but that is why you get the 4x4.

I would say the diesel and v10 are almost equal, it depends on what you want the toy to do. The diesel will sink quicker in mud or wet ground, and the van will need more involved maintenance. There are fuel filters to deal with, you actually need to watch the pump to make sure it is diesel, and winter mix in winter. Yes there are places that sell straight all winter long, they expect you to know enough to mix it for your truck. More oil per change as well, and don't forget the additive for the coolant. There are probably more things, but those are the biggies. Oh, you get to plug your baby in at night if it gets really cold. It will start without help if needed, but it prefers to be plugged in.

On the plus side you get better torque, hopefully better mileage, and you have an engine that should keep on trucking long after the body rusts in half. You get a turbo whistle attached to the gas pedal, and as this board knows there are lots of mods to do to the engine.

The v10 is more for those who do not want to deal with caring for their vehicle. Change the fluids and fill the gas tank and run it. It uses rpm rather than torque to move the big loads, but you can read the history in the gasser forum and learn about them. The v10 is rated lower in torque, but I think it has more horsepower. So it depends on how you drive.

The 5.4 is likely not the best engine for 4x4. Read up on it in the gasser forums as there are people who are very happy with them.

I would get the diesel unless you dislike the idea of the extra stuff to do to the van. The v10 is my next choice and if you plan on playing on the beach it will be lighter and not sink as much as the diesel.
