I ordered the Factory Fog Light Kit for my 2001 XLT, they should be the same lights and setup as the Lariat & Excursion Models.
I called the Parts/Service Dept looking for an installed price for these great lights. The parts department was dumb-faced to the request, and ordered them (what they thought was them), they claim it is a special order product with a 3-4 week delivery, maybe. ($287.00 list, $168.00 my cost) They cant tell me what the kit consists of, or if it will come with instructions.
You should have seen the look on the service managers face when I asked him for the installation costs. He was clueless, thought it might take 4-5 hrs to install, he pulls over a 20 yr old mechanic, who climbs under the truck, looks in all the wrong places, isnt sure of anything, thinks he can do it in an hour, maybe.
My questions the Ford Dealer couldnt answer: What is in the Kit?
How is it installed in the dash?
Is it connected to the headlights, and can they be mounted to direct power, instead of going through the headlights?
Are the bulbs amber or white, can they be changed out?
Where is the switch mounted?
Don't these come with detailed instructions?
Don't you have a guideline that would tell you the time alloted to do the installation?
Why is it, you can't come up with any valuable information about the products you sell and install?
I hate to rag on the dealer and there lack of information, but isnt that what there paid for?
Thanks, James

If the kit you ordered was for a 2001 you should not have too big a problem installing the fog lights. If Ford continued to do what they have in the past the wire harness should already be in your truck all you have to do is find the connection for the fog lamps and plug them in. The kit connects directly to your head lights. To turn them on just pull your headlight switch out. I have a 2000 and the fog lamp kit for my truck is different. My dealer gave me a price of $70 for each light on a 2001, but these would not work on my truck. Just look under your hood on the drivers side and look for a connection plug by the front wheel well. My dealer did not know much about the kits of the 2000 and the 2001 also. Best of luck and I hope I did not confuse you even more

I just installed the 2001 Fog light kit for my 2001 SD, it went smoothly. The dealer sold them to me list for $167.86. The switch is mounted below the dash and its a clean setup. Lights work great too! Took about an hour to install and they work with the parking lights or headlamps. They came with detailed instructions. I love my truck...
