First 1500 miles on new V10, my report so far.......

I ordered a 2001 F250 Lariat on Jan 12, and took delivery March 1st. The truck is everything that I thought it would be and more. This thing has an awesome presence on the road, and I love it. I have several obsevations about this machine that I thought several here would be intersted in.

1) The dreaded 'flutter' is most definitely there. It sounds like all the time people have wasted at the dealer trying to get this fixed has been just that, a waste of time. If anyone knows any way possible to get rid of this, please share. I don't care how much it costs! Is there any muffler/tailpipe combo that can help this?

2) The new SIR leather heated seats are very nice, especially being in MN.

3) I love that new 6 disk in dash CD changer!

4) The Firestone tires really sucked. I traded them in for a set of 285 BFG TA KO's. They are so much better than the Firestone's, it isn't even funny. I HIGHLY recommend this to everyone.

5) My rear driver side door(s) has squeaks/rattles in it near the top part of the weather stripping, and it is driving me crazy. It almost looks as if the rear door on the driver side is not aligned correctly either. I need to look at some other Super Duty's and see what may be different. Anyone have ideas on this?

Overall, I love my new truck. I feel like the king of the road in this thing, especially with the fog lights and roof lights on at night. ALl I know is I can't wait to tow my race car with this thing! I have already added a K&N, bug shield, vent visors(manadatory), and the new tires. Next up is some mud flaps as I already have rock chips on my quarter panels, subwoofer/amp, bed liner, and a tonnuea cover. After that I am done!!

Re: First 1500 miles on new V10, my report so far.......

After crashing my 97 Dodge 1500 on Sunday I am going to purchase my SD 1 year ahead of schedule. I recently put a new radio/12 disc changer/amp and sub in the dodge and would like to use the sub and amp with the new Ford. Do you know if the 6 disc changer is FM modulated or direct connected? Are there RCA outs on the stock radio for hooking up the amp? Thanks for your insight.

Re: First 1500 miles on new V10, my report so far.......

Here are three threads that might be similar to your rattle. I had more of a wind noise than a rattle, so I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing, however. I put down a second piece of weatherstripping on the foward side of the rear door. Picture in my sig. Other threads: 1 2 3

I have a November 2000 V10 and don't think I have flutter-I thought they fixed it after August. Hmnn.

Thanks for the tips on the door rattle. I will look at that hard plastic piece and see if I can add a little piece of weather strip to it.

As for the flutter, it definitely is not fixed, even with the new y-pipe. If anyone knows of a muffler/tailpipe combo that can lessen this noise, please share.

BTW....Here are a couple pics of my truck with the BFG's on.

Tony S
You ended your post by saying "After that I'm done!!!" Sorry, but you're NEVER done That's the curse of buying a nice truck..somebody has to keep the aftermarket people in business

You guys are right, I will probably never be done with the mods. The only problem is the more I spend on my truck, the less I spend on finishing my race car! I should have said," I am done for awhile".
