first road trip

the 23rd im leaving on my first trip with the truck. driving a 1000 miles to illinois. truck is still pretty much stock, gonna check the mileage on the way up, while im up there im gonna yank out the muffler and replace it with some pipe. ill check the mileage on the way back and also take note of the sound. when i get back to florida ill prob. go ahead and add a second pipe, still without a muffler. instead of going straight back, i think ill have the pipes come out towards the corners of the bumper at an angle. ill post the mileage when i get back.

Re: first road trip

Where at in ILLINOIS??? If you keep your speed around 72-mph, you should get about 14-15 mpg. Go much above
that and the mileage will suffer. Have taken mine on several trips, love the comfort, ability to see whats ahead
and the passing power when the need arises. Have a safe trip.....

Re: first road trip

well i made it to ill. and with me driving the first seven hours at between 75 and 80 mph i got 12.8 mpg, then the wife took over, driving between 60 and 70mph and she got 14.5 mpg, then my mom drove and she got 14.3 mpg at between 60 and 70 mph. i have already got my muffler cut off and replaced with just some pipe. im thinking the on the way back to florida the mileage should increase just a bit. oh! it snowed like a bi@#* up here! i love 4 wheel drive! this is the first time my truck and my daughter has seen snow, they both loved it, but my truck has never been so dirty.

Re: first road trip

Yep, been camping around danville at rock cut state park. It is a reclaimed strip mine that they have converted
with good fishing, mountain bike trails, class a campground and other neat things. The mileage thing is pretty
much right on, and the need for fuel coincides with restroom breaks or refueling of french fries. On one trip to
minnesota, it was in 4x4 all the way and I STILL averaged 12-13 mpg. Yeah, we got some of that snow too, had
hubs locked, but I used the "give it more gas theory " Oh, the blue really does show the illinois salt!!
