Re: Which Flowmaster

I got the medium one, 50 series 1 to 2, not too loud. I think I should have gotten the 40 series (loudest ones). I don't even have the delta series which are quieter. Somehow these v10s are not too loud. Anyone have any ideas as to why??

go for the 40 1 to 2. let me know what it sounds like.

Which Flowmaster

(I think) I want to install a Flowmaster exhaust system on my SuperDuty. There appears to be more than one choice available.
Which one should I use? Should I use 1-in-1-out or 1-in-2-out?

I'm primarily after increased mileage although the low rumble sound is nice as long as it doesn't get too loud.

Help,

steve

Wow!! That's some truck you have. Good job.

So you don't think the 40-series would be too loud? What's the difference (other than loudness) between the 40-series and the 50-series? What would I gain by going with the 40-series?

I have to admit I'm quite ignorant about exhaust systems. I know enough about trucks in general to get by (I've been working on them all my life) but I've had little experience with exhausts. I usually just run the stock exhaust but I have friends that have installed the Flowmasters and claim significant mileage improvements so I thought I'd try it.

The only other exhaust I ever messed with was on a '76 Ford E250 4X4 (Quadravan) with the 460. I put custom dual exhausts on it that came out in front of the wheels and it sounded real nice and improved the performance of the 460. Of course, nothing can improve the mileage of the 460! But that was back before catalytic converters were required on 3/4-ton trucks.

Anyway, thanks for your help,

Steve

What kind of significant mileage improvements?

Re: Which Flowmaster

I think you would need to ask this in the gas engine forum.
My 2 cents.

The most notable would be from 16 to 19 in a 350 equipped Chevy. I don't know anyone who has installed a system on a SuperDuty for comparison numbers. I wish I did. Anyone out there have any numbers for us?

Re: Which Flowmaster

I put a 40 series 1 in 2 out on my 99 V10. I do plan on putting a flowmaster on my 2001, however I will probably look at the 40 series deltaflow or the 50 series. The 40 was fine at idle, great at cruising, but had a horrible high pitched resonance while accelerating (around 3300 RPM)

As far as performance or mileage gains? hard to say. With this exhaust, A K&N and a superchip I could consistantly get 14mpg on the highway (after it was broke in). best I ever got was 15.2mpg. Not sure which one improved it or the combination was the factor.
