well.... i decided to run a flowmaster two chamber.....

and well, not sure if i like it all that much. kind of a tinny sound.

i will let the muffler "break in" for a few weeks and report back what i think.

Re: flowmaster

Be interested in hearing how you like it after some time. I've been thinking about Flowmaster, but probably will go 3 chamber. Do you notice much difference in sound level in the cab (with windows closed)?

Re: flowmaster

I had a 40 series 2 chamber on my Dodge 360 and it was too loud in the cab. I do however really like the sound of my Banks system on my V10. Not as loud, but just right.

Re: flowmaster

ABENDX,

How and where did you install it, do you have a turn down on it? Depending on how you have the turndown/tailpipe will alter the sound. I used a 3" pc of mandrel bent tubing, some of the stuff that is krinkle bent makes weird noises because it breaks up the airflow.

Once you use it a little it will also take some of the "tinny" sound out.

Re: flowmaster

the muffler was installed in the same spot as the stock one. with a turn down right after the muffler. the turn down they made is kind of weird as it is about 10" long after the bend.

the ppl that installed it told me that they have had varied experiences with the ford v10.... i guess the earlier models had a different y-pipe that was larger in diameter and they said that those v10's sounded really good.

they did tell me taht if i wsn't happy with it to bring it back and they could play with the placement of the muffler by bringing it closer to the cat.

as for the question of sound in the cab... yes, you can hear it when you get on it... at idle you can not hear it the cab.

one interesting thing to note is that i also insatlled my k&n fipk a few hours later... this did seem to mellow the tinniness sound a tad.... not enough to make me happy, but it did lessen.

the fipk is pretty cool sounding when you have the hood open and listen to it.... a real BIG SUCKER as they say

as for performance.... it is not huge mind you, but i can feel a difference.

outside of the truck when i hit it, ppl's heads do turn as the truck is pretty loud outside.
one thing i did notice at idea that was pretty cool was that it raps a little here and there.... if i could get a bit more of that sound i would be really happy!

scott... how is your's setup?

Re: flowmaster

If you can't get used to the sound, you might consider a Magna-Flow, I have been told it is not quite as tinny as the flowmaster.

Re: flowmaster

Abendx,

I kept my turn down pretty short. I just emailed you a picure. I had a little bit longer one, and it seemed to be more hollow sounding.

The only thing that sucks about Flowmasters, is that they rust at all the seams. If anything I'll ceramic coat it and the turndown, or change to something stainless.

Re: flowmaster

Brad, the other day I listened to a V10 with a three chambered flowmaster and it had two pipes coming out the back with 3" chrome tips. It sounded pretty damn good in my opinion, not quite a V8 but close. I'm going to get the same set-up in the next week or two, except I'm going to get 3 1/2" tail pipes. I'll post how it sounds.
p.s. still got that amp?

Re: flowmaster

aleig14572,

the sound is starting to grow on me as it mellows out.... not positive i love it yet, but surely don't hate it as i did when i first heard it. not sure if adding the intake helped a lot for sound or not as the muffler was on only for around 20 miles before i put the intake on.

and yes... still have the amp

Re: flowmaster

I'm going to put a flowmaster on my V-10 in the next few weeks and was going to use the 70 series, but is the 40 a better choice? I have not heard either, but the muffler guy told me the 70 sounds nice on the Ford V-10. Thanks, Rick

Re: flowmaster

I am going to wait for Abendx to post a sound clip before deciding on mine. Also does anyone have sound clips of other exhaust brands? I'd like to hear the Gibson or Borla if available.
