What will Ford have to offer in the near future to battle Toyota's 5.7 and Chevy's 6.0? Both of these engines produce a great deal more torque and hp then the 5.4. How long before the Hurricane engine is in production and in a F-150? Are there plans to increase the hp and tq of the 5.4 to at least try and compete? I want to buy a new F-150 gasser in the future, but I can't pull the trigger when other companies offer so much more power.
Toyota's 5.7L is said to have around 380 hp. Ford should be counterring this engine with the on again, off again, now on again 6.2L V8 Hurricane in 2008.
Just read that the Hurricane is now called the Boss 302 and will be available in the 2008 F-150. It's a 5 litre engine that will produce between 340 and 500 hp. I guess that answers my question.

stau40, where did you read that? A 6.2 liter is definately not 302 cubes, but they did change the name from the Hurricane motor to the Boss motor. I did read the 6.2 can be punched out to 7+ liters though, but I don't remember where that was I read that.

I read it on autoblog. Seems after reading closer that the boss I explained is only the crate motor they are offering. They say that the boss offered in the F-150 will have very little in common with the boss crate motor except for the name. Sounds like the production version of the boss will be around 6 litres as earlier thought, but it's anybodies guess on hp and torque numbers. Sounds like nobody really knows much more about the engine.
Ford won't do anything to counter the competition's larger, more powerful engines. What do you expect from a company that finds aboslutely nothing wrong with putting a 280-inch motor in a 3,500+ pound Mustang GT. Even the Shelbys are a joke. They need to supercharge a 5.4L to keep up with the competition's naturally-aspirated high performance offerings (and they've failed miserablly at that as well). Would it kill them to offer something with some cubic inches?

Blah, blah..I hardly find a 500hp Mustang a Joke. But what do I know since I drive a 4.6 powered heavy sedan which gets a true 27 mpg on the highway. Show me the competition...there is none! Ford has great vehicles, you just have to drive them before judging them.

That would be an excellent point if this thread pertained to fuel economy.

I was not besmirching the quality of Ford's products. It's just that they are underpowered compared to the others' offerings. I own/drive 2 Fords (I suppose you were unable to discern that from my name) so my opinion on Ford's quality is every bit as valid as yours.

It is when it's a 3,600 lb car.
At least GM was smart enough to put a naturally-aspirated 500hp motor in a car 500lbs lighter than the Mustang.
Well yeah, fordpowerfred, I assume you mean the Corvette. You forget though that the Corvette is not in the same price range or buyer market that the Mustang is. And they don't make as many of them as Mustangs either.
The Corvette is a flagship car, compare it to the Ford GT, the Mustang is comparable to the Camaro. Oh wait, they don't currently make a Camaro!
I guess I would rather have a car for you to complain about(Mustang), than like the Dodge and Chevy boys, who have no car to complain about(right now anyways).
Tell you what, why don't you tell Ford how they can engineer it better to suit your tastes, and figure out a way to keep the price in most buyers range.

And the Ford GT is in the the same price range and targets the same market as the ZO6? Get real.
Even when the last generation Camaro was available, they still outperformed the Mustang GTs that were available at that time.

Millions of people as well as I are doing just that by not buying their products. If you read a newspaper every once in a while, you would notice Ford is and has been losing a ton of money over the past few years. So much so that they sold Hertz, cut the dividend to shareholders, are offering buyouts to employees and its bonds are considered "junk" by credit rating organizations. I really hope Ford gets past this but they really need to get on the ball.
The only thing that has kept Ford alive until this point are their trucks and until the past couple of years, their SUVs.
I don't know what it is about some people on this board. They take personal offense at any criticism of anything Ford. I swear you would catch less flak if you said something bad about someone's mother.
