Free oil change - when to do it?

The dealer gave me a free oil change on my new V10. When would you do it? Are these engines run at the factory? I know in my Porsche they refused to change the oil until the first scheduled service; the oil (Mobil 1) had something in it the factory wanted left in and run. Anything like that in the Ford engines? thanks...

Re: Free oil change - when to do it?

There may be some dye to help detect leaks, but I don't think Ford adds any special lubricants to the initial oil fill.

I changed my oil at 1000 miles and I'll do it again at 3000 and every 3000 miles afterwards. Some people make their first change at 500 and others run the full 3000 miles. As there is no "official" recommendation from Ford, do what you think is best for your truck.

Re: Free oil change - when to do it?

I used my free oil change at 1000 miles. The manual may call for longer interval, but I like to change shortly into the break-in period to get any crud out of the engine.

Re: Free oil change - when to do it?

I changed my own at 500 and am going to use my free one at 3,000. I later found out, not confirmed though, that FORD run's the motor's in an oil bath with out firing them to get rid of any shaving's. Had I known that I wouldn't have done one before 3,000.
