Friend looking at 01 V-10

I have a good friend looking to buy a 01- V10 w/ 120+ miles. It's a F350 Dually.
He asked my opinion since I frequent these boards. I don't have alot of knowledge on the v10, but specifically should I warn him about anything. I've read the typical plug blow out posts, and told him about this. With the 100+ miles, I'm figuring someone has probably changed the plugs and it kinda scares me if johnny six pack may have done this.
Any thoughts? Tranny the typcial 4R100 that my 02 7.3L has?

Thanks in advance..

If it was well maintained, that V10 should go at least another 100K. As far as the plugs, just make sure that they're torqued properly (although, since you're already in there, I'd replace them as well). The tranny is a 4R100 (same as yours).

Re: Friend looking at 01 V-10

The 4r100 in the Diesel is built heavier duty than the one in the V10 (at least my tranny guy said so). It handles more torque. The 4r100 should have got upgraded main support bearings in 2003(?). The ones in my 2000 went out at 31,000 miles. Ford repaired the tranny and the service writer said the bearings were upgraded to the "new style" ones.

The 2001 still had some exhaust "flutter" issues with the infamous "Y" pipe debackle. Harmless but annoying. I think it was different in 2001 from 2000, but I'm not sure if the noise truly went away.

You already know about the spark plug issue. 2001 or 2002 should have more threads in the head than previous years to alleviate this Ford gaffe.

I doubt this or they would call it something else. IMO. Interesting about the center main. In my old 150 the e40d went out at 180k (just started leaking oil out of the front seal). I watched them take it apart and the center main was a bushing, a problem. The replacememt was a roller bearing. Wonder if they got cheap again.
