Re: Fuel filter removal??

Funny thing, I know the answer! (I think?) The only reason for this is, I went to the quick-lube and they asked if I wanted the fuel filter replaced, I said sure. Two days latter my wife calls and says that the truck smells of gas! She pulled over, I had no trouble finding her!(Follow the stream of gas on the pavement!) Anyway, the dork at the lube forgot to put the clips back on! Just plugged the filter in! I had to buy two new clips from the dealer. Snap on and done!

Re: Fuel filter removal??

To answer your question Yes. There are some plastic clip looking tools you must stick in the on board clips to release them. It's like a spring loaded metal o-ring if I recall that holds the line on. This plastic tool spreads it so it can slide over a bevel.

J-man, I remember the plastic clips but some instructions I read said they could be ommited. They're sort of a safty thing if I recall. All I know is even after I broke them I couldn't remove the filter lines. With the tool it's about a 2 minute job (after a gas bath). The tool was about $5 at an antoparts store. The kit comes with 3 different sizes. I keep mine in the glove box.

Good Luck,
Rob

Re: Fuel filter removal??

Make sure you follow the instructions in whatever manual you are using for this filter change. Especially important is to bleed off fuel system pressure. There is a Shrader valve on the P side injector bank that is used for this.

Also, NAPA sells a metal tool for spreading these "O" rings that I prefer.

Regards,
