gas engines and squeeky front ends

having a psd that the front end seems to have enough noises in it that i have had enough, do you guys with the V-10s have alot of strange noises up front? wondering if the weight of the diesel has anything to do with it?

Re: gas engines and squeeky front ends

I've got plenty of squeeks and creaks and I've got a v-8. Second set of front springs and had tip isolators replaced.
STILL SQUEEKS

Re: gas engines and squeeky front ends

Don't change engines because of the squeaking front end problem. If anything, with the quiet gas engine, you'll hear it more than with the PSD. Mine has assorted squeeks and clunks at certain times, but I choose to turn up the radio!

Re: gas engines and squeeky front ends

Trapper Dan, I have the X springs also. I had the awful creaking sound too. My isolators were replaced with the white ones, but that didn't help either. My Y2K F-250 was made in the early part of the Y2K run. I recently looked at a late run F-450 with the X springs. The springs on the 450 were quite a bit different than mine. The rear of the bottom leaf does not wrap around the eye of the spring as it did on my early X springs. The dealer has changed my springs to the updated X spring design. So far, all is well and no more squeaking. Here is the part number for the new springs: YC3Z 5310 AN If you get new springs, use this number. Otherwise, you'll get the "old style" X springs. SamC

Re: gas engines and squeeky front ends

SamC, good information to know about the new spring design. I too am on my 3rd set of isolator tips, this time I do have the white ones...thus far no squeaks. How long did they have to keep your truck to replace the leafs and did they have to re-align afterwords???

Re: gas engines and squeeky front ends

gossamar, the dealer kept my truck for a day, approx. 8-3. I'm not too sure how long it took to change them, but I wanted to give them enough time to do it. They did not re-align the truck after the spring change. It's still quiet too. SamC

Re: gas engines and squeeky front ends

I have this problem too but it is on the back burner for now until my Lemon Law case is completed (for flutter)

The one thing that I did notice is that the drivers side front spring set ( the one that groans ) is offset - In other words, the top sring is set too far back and the tip isolator is not centered. I'm pretty sure that is what causes the noise. The passenger side springs are centered and they don't squeak at all. I think this is a Quality Control issue!

For now, I just spray a little silicone on the tip isolator and it quiet's it for a while.

Re: gas engines and squeeky front ends

I have a 2000 F350 V10 made in March, and it also makes strange suspension noises in front.

I have F550 X springs on order, they should arrive in a few days. They are the newer design that SamC is talking about, so the noise should go away. If they arrive, I will install them this weekend, and let you guys know early next week how they do...

Re: gas engines and squeeky front ends

I had about 25k on the factory springs (99.5) with no squeaking. I changed out to the x springs and I just starting squeaking after about 2k. It started with out with our first cold snap (well for Houston). They don't do it all the time. The squeak is coming from the rear isolator. I may try some grease or something or I may put my old isolators on the x springs.
